Adelyn Elise: 4 Months

Weight: 13 lbs 10 oz (45th percentile)
(This means she has gained almost 8 lbs since we left the hospital and has gone from less than the 5th percentile to the 45th percentile. Woohoo!)
Length: 25 inches (80th percentile)

Adelyn at 4 Months:

-Wears Size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothes. She has outgrown a lot of her 3 month jammies but the 6 month jammies are too big. She's just kind of in between sizes right now. I also don't mind putting her in things that are a little bit too big. With Emerson I waited too long for some outfits and she outgrew them before she got to wear them. I won't make that mistake again.

-Is really not on any kind of schedule but we are working on it. We had a week long period where she was just super fussy and pretty much cried non-stop. Even if we were holding her she just cried. She rarely smiled and just seemed like she wasn't herself. She would only nap in our arms and even those were short lived. Needless to say it was a very stressful time. I finally figured out that part of the problem was that she was just overtired. All of those little catnaps just weren't working for her. I learned that if I put her in her crib or the pack n play, she would fuss for a few minutes before putting herself to sleep. This has led to some very long naps as opposed to the 15-45 minutes she was doing before. Sometimes I have to go back in and pat her or rock her for a few minutes but it's usually pretty easy. It's such a relief because we were fighting her to sleep before that.

-She goes to bed around 7:00, has a bottle at 10:00 and then usually sleeps until about 3:30 or 4:00. Some nights she wakes up around 1:00 or 2:00 to eat. When she gets up super early she will usually go back to sleep but it may take an hour or more. I think as we start getting into a better routine she will probably get back to sleeping longer through the night.

-She is still in the pack n play in our room. Most nights she ends up in bed with us after her middle of the night feeding. I always said that I wouldn't do that but when you are seriously sleep deprived you'll do just about anything. She just loves to be up next to me while we sleep.

-She is a belly sleeper. I lay on her back and she almost always rolls over to her stomach.

-Drools like no other. I don't see any teeth coming in but this girl can drool!

-We still have a non-nurser and I'm still pumping. 4 months and still going strong. Adelyn eats about 4.5 ounces every 2-3 hours.

-She has THE sweetest little grin. It seriously melts me! As long as she is not super tired or hungry she is the happiest baby in the world. She will just smile and smile and I can't get enough!

-She is obsessed with her big sister. Nobody can make her smile or laugh like Emerson does.

-She moves more than any baby I have ever seen. She is hard to hold when she is awake because she is such a wiggle worm. When we leave her on the floor she scoots and rolls to get where she wants to go.  She can roll from back to front and front to back. She prefers to be on her tummy and will almost always immediately roll over if you lay her on her back.

-She will take the pacifier but doesn't love it. If she's hungry it doesn't soothe her and she will spit it out and cry even louder.

-We went through about a 3 week phase where she just hated her carseat. She would pretty much scream from the time we put her in it until we took her out. It made for some pretty stressful and less than enjoyable car rides. Thankfully she seems to have outgrown it.

-She is seriously the most ticklish baby I have ever seen. If you barely touch her she giggles and squirms. It's pretty much the cutest thing ever.

-She no longer likes the Boba wrap or the ring sling. She squirms and fights when she is in either one. She will tolerate the Ergo and usually falls asleep but wants out the moment she wakes up.

-She is such a momma's girl. She loves daddy for sure but when is super fussy I'm the one that she wants. I don't mind the extra cuddles.

Adelyn Elise, we love you more than the moon and the stars. You have made our family complete and we are so very thankful for you! It's a joy watching you grow and learn and you are such a blessing.

L Fam Weekly: May 18-23

Since the beginning of 2014 I have been trying to post at least one picture a day on Instagram. I've been using the hashtag #lfamdaily14. I thought it would be a fun way to look back at our year in glance. I also usually count on my blog as a record of our family happening. Unfortunately I haven't been blogging as much as I'd like, so I feel like a lot of my pictures are just sitting in iPhoto, never to be seen again. So, I'm going to something new: a weekly post called L Fam Weekly. It will mostly be pictures and videos, along with a little recap of our week. I'm going to try to keep up with it but we'll see how it goes. Anyhow, here's the first installment of L Fam Weekly:
This week was pretty laid back compared to the previous week. We actually didn't have a lot going on and I was thankful for that. Emerson didn't go to preschool on Monday because we were all sick with colds. I even went to the doctor to make sure I didn't have strep after spotting yucky white patches on my throat. We really didn't go anywhere Monday or Tuesday because I wanted to make sure we didn't pass on our germs to anyone else.
By Wednesday we all had cabin fever and we were in desperate need of groceries. Emerson entertained Adelyn while I got ready for the day.

Then we headed to the commissary (grocery store on base) and stocked up. Afterwards we met Jesse for a picnic lunch at the playground.

On Thursday we spent the entire morning at one of the playgrounds in our neighborhood. A couple of friends met us there and I enjoyed chatting while Emerson played with her little friends.

Emerson has really been fighting naps lately so I've been letting her skip them more often than not. I like that we are able to put her to bed earlier and have more time in the evenings to hang out. On Thursday afternoon she was upstairs playing in her room when I noticed that she got really quiet. I went upstairs and this is what I found:

Sweet girl. Meanwhile, this little cutie and I got some one on one time.

Friday was doctor day! Emerson had preschool in the morning so Adelyn and I did some Target shopping before her appointment.

Unfortunately we had to wait FOREVER at the doctor. It was super crowded and they were just way behind. Jesse ended up having to leave work to pick up E from school because I was stuck at the doctor. The good news is that Adelyn is healthy and growing and she did great with her immunizations.

That afternoon Emerson had her three year check up. It wasn't crowded but we still waited forever. It was not ideal with an overtired toddler and a fussy baby but we survived. I probably won't schedule two appointment in one day in the future if I can help it. :) Luckily Emerson also got a clean bill of health. I'll share her stats when I do her three year post (hopefully soon!)

That was pretty much our week in a nutshell. I'm glad that everyone is finally on the mend. As much as I hated that the girls were sick, it forced us to stay home and I was able to get a lot of work done around the house. That's always a good thing.

Since I promised weekly videos, here's one of Adelyn trying to crawl. She has figured out that she can roll or scoot to get anywhere she wants. It's amazing how far she can make it.

Emerson Goes to Preschool

Emerson has officially been in preschool for two weeks and she is loving it. She goes two days a week for 4 hours. Right now it seems like its the perfect amount of time but we may eventually switch to 3/4 days.

I thought I would be sad on her first day but I was honestly excited for both of us. I knew she needed more social interaction and structured play and I was looking forward to some time to get things done.

The night before I was so excited to make her lunch. I got her this adorable little bento box from Amazon. It's the perfect size for her and has been leak proof so far.

She was so excited to wear her back pack and head into the her classroom.

She went right in without hesitation and started playing with the other kids. I felt really good about my decision to start her a little earlier than we had planned. When I went to pick her up she was so excited to tell me about her day. Her teacher said she did great except for one thing: she wouldn't leave her shoes on. The girls hates wearing shoes just like her momma!

Since then she become accustomed to taking a picture in the parking lot before going in and keeping her shoes on.

They've made some adorable crafts and she always seems so happy when I pick her up. I also like that they are a Christian, family oriented school while also being accredited by one of the top accrediting agencies.

On the Friday before Mother's Day they did Muffins for Mom. It was super cute and Ems was beyond excited.

And on her birthday she was able to bring treats to share with the class. They sang Happy Birthday to her and she got her own birthday crown.

So far I'd say that Emerson's enrollment in part time preschool has been a success. I've really enjoyed the one on one time with Adelyn and Emerson loves to go to school. We both miss each other during that time too, so it's always a fun little reunion when I go to pick her up. It's hard to believe she's old enough to be in preschool but it's nice to see her growing and blossoming into such a sweet, smart little girl.

Mother's Day 2014

I'm so, so behind on blog posts but I'm doing my best to catch up. I wanted to be sure and do a little recap of Mother's Day, even if it's mostly pictures.

Emerson made a gift for me at preschool and she was beyond excited and proud to give it to me.

I am in love with and couldn't help but cry when I opened it. You may remember that the theme of E's first birthday was My Little Sunshine so this couldn't be more fitting.

On Mother's Day both of our babies were dedicated at church. I wanted Emerson to look extra cute so  I curled her hair for the first time ever. I thought she looked adorable in the rollers.

It turned out SO stinking cute!! I just couldn't get over it.

Adelyn looked pretty darn cute too!

I completely failed to have anyone take pictures during the dedication but someone did snap this one with their cell phone. It's not the best but at least it's something. When we dedicated the girls we had to choose three words/traits that we wanted to pray for them. We chose courageous, generous, and faithful. I have no doubt that God will grow all of these traits in our precious girls.

After church we went to eat at one of my very favorite restaurants. Everyone was in a good mood so it was actually an enjoyable meal out! (You just never know with two kiddos!) :)

Jesse gave me money for Mother's Day and told me to buy whatever I wanted. He knows me all too well. I ended up getting a new Bible and prayer journal and a couple of shirts. I have been slowly digging into my Bible and I am so excited about it. It includes so many extras that make studying His word and applying it a little bit easier.
I couldn't have asked for a better Mother's Day! I am so blessed to be momma to two beautiful girls!
