I plan on doing another post on how Emerson is adjusting to her new role as big sister. Until then, I want to share pictures from their first meeting.
Jesse went and got Emerson and my mom just a few hours after Adelyn was born. Our room was at the very end of the hall and Jesse said the whole time they were walking she was calling out, "Adelyn. Mommy." I could hear them coming and I just couldn't wait to see my girl!!
As soon as she came in the room she came right over to see her baby sister. She kept saying, "Aww. She's so cute."
After less than a minute, she was ready to get down and explore. Honestly the hospital room was every bit as exciting to her as seeing the baby.
She noticed a spot of blood still left on Adelyn's head and it completely freaked her out. This picture is just priceless.
The nurse offered to wait until E arrived to give A her first bath. I thought Emerson would enjoy watching and she did for the beginning.
As the bath progressed Adelyn began to cry and Emerson was not a fan of her crying at all! You can tell by these pictures that she's quite concerned about her baby sister.
Emerson got a big sister bracelet from one of the nurses and then spent the rest of the time playing with the naval aspirator. They left soon after that and I wondered just how well E had processed the big meeting. Mimi texted me throughout the evening and the next day telling me the cute things that Emerson has been saying about her baby sister:
"Adelyn is so cute."
"Adelyn is out of mommy's belly. She's really out."
"Adelyn had blood on her head."
After hearing that she kept talking about her I felt like she had handled the meeting really well. I really looked forward to getting home and watching my girls' bond develop. We've only been home for a few days but it has been quite the adjustment. I'll be posting about that soon, along with more pictures of my sweet daughters together and the rest of our hospital stay.
