Baby #2: 32 Weeks

I can't believe I haven't done a bump update in 4 weeks! I meant to every week but I never got around to taking a picture!

How Far Along: 32 Weeks

Size of baby: About 15 inches long and 3.3 lbs

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +24 pounds. The bump has grown SO  much in the last few weeks. I can also tell that my face and arms have filled out quite a bit.

Maternity Clothes: I still wear a few non-maternity tank tops but they are all getting too short

Gender: A baby girl, Adelyn Elise

Movement: Now that we had an ultrasound I know that she is head up and that's why I can feel all of those kicks so low.

Symptoms: I feel pretty good! It's getting harder to bend over and to get up off of the couch of out of bed but I can't complain. Also, my skin is just terrible.  I never have really great skin but it's seriously out of control right now.

Sleep: I've been sleeping pretty well. I usually wake up between 3:30 and 4:00 and have a hard time going back to sleep but most of the time I eventually fall back to sleep.

What I miss: I can tell that Adelyn is taking up more room and it's making harder to get a good deep breath. So I guess I would say I miss being able to breathe!

Cravings: Fruit, especially grapes

Best Moment This Week: Having our 3d/4d ultrasound and seeing our girl's beautiful little face. I can't wait to kiss those sweet cheeks and little lips. (This was actually a few weeks ago! Man, time is flying by!)

Shopping: I've been buying little odds and ends for the nursery, including the fabric and pretty much all of the wall decor.  We also got the crib set up! I found the perfect curtains but the store only had 3 of the 4 panels that I needed. Last week I went to hang them up and I couldn't find them anywhere. I think I may have accidentally thrown them away when I took some boxes to the dumpster. I honestly feel like crying about it!! :( Talk about some serious pregnancy brain! Since then I have repurchased the panels plus the one I needed and we have done tons of projects in the nursery. I made the crib sheet and did a few other little crafts. Jesse has been taking care of some spray painting for me. It's starting to come together, slowly but surely. I'm really excited about it and I can't wait to see the finished room!

Emerson is Two and a Half

Wow! Just wow! How can it be that my little baby girl is two and a half years old. It just doesn't seem possible. She has grown and changed so much in just the time that we've been in California. She has definitely lost all signs of baby and has become such a big girl. Here are a few things I want to remember about Emerson at this age:

Weight: 30. 3 lbs  (70th percentile)
Height: 37.75 inches (75th percentile)
In weight for length, she is in the 50th percentile. She's growing right on track! Everywhere we go people just assume that she is at least 3 because of her size and her nonstop talking.

-She wears size 7.5-8 shoes, and 2t and 3t clothes. I have to be her 3t dresses because most 2t are too short.

-She normally sleeps from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM and takes a nap from 1:00-4:00 almost every day.

-Her favorite thing is still her stuffed doggy, Henry. She has to have him to go to sleep. I bought her a second one and she likes him too but he certainly didn't replace Henry. She rubs his tail while she is falling asleep. She also sleeps with a multitude of other random things. It depends on what she's been playing with that day.

-She has days where she eats really well but for the most part she doesn't eat a lot these days. Her favorite foods are yogurt, apples and dry cereal. She still prefers raw veggies over cooked. She'll eat carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, and bell pepper but her favorite is corn.

-She really doesn't like meat but will eat a chicken nugget or a bit of hamburger every now and then. She used to eat eggs but won't touch those anymore. Right now she's going through a phase where she doesn't really want to try much of anything. I still give her whatever we are having but there are many meals where she won't touch it!

-She LOVES milk and has a cup at every meal. She is also obsessed with juice. I don't buy it so she only gets it occasionally and when she does she drinks the whole thing in about in one long drink. Seriously, she can suck down a juice box in less than 30 seconds.

-Playing dress up is her favorite activity right now. She has to have a dress, high heels, gloves, a crown, and a magic wand. She has been known to sleep in her costumes on more than one occasion.

-She loves to paint and do crafts. She also likes to color but only with markers. Crayons do not interest her much at all.

-She loves to play with random things and will usually pick household items over toys. Right now she is pretty obsessed with candles/scentsy cubes. It's so funny.

-She is my little shadow and likes to be with me at all times. She will sit in the kitchen when I'm cooking dinner and follow me all throughout the house when I'm cleaning. She has also been super cuddly lately. I can't say that I mind one bit!

-She is so excited about being a big sister. When we are out she will point to my belly and tell people, "This is my sister, Adelyn (Adewyn.) She loves to talk about how we are going to feed her milk and rock her. I can't wait to see my two girls together.

-I would say she is 99 percent potty trained. She still wears a diaper at night and during nap. She wears panties when we are out and about most of the time but I do put her in pull ups when I know we won't have access to a bathroom for a while.

-She has the funniest little personality and she keeps us laughing. Sometimes we really wonder where she comes up with the things she says. I have a separate post coming with some more of her cute little sayings but here are a few of my recent favorites:

-Emerson is such a TV girl. I swear she would watch TV all day if I would let her. Lately she will develop an obsession with a particular movie and will want to watch it over and over. It usually lasts about a week before she's ready to move on to something new.

-She loves to be outside and to play with her friends. Her favorite thing at the playground is still the swing.  She loves walking around and exploring.

-She loves anything holiday related. During Halloween she was obsessed with all of the decorations and we spent lots of time walking around looking at everyone's decor. Now that Christmas decor is out she asks to go to the store and look at the "Christmas stuff." It's so much fun!!

-She is absolutely obsessed with our neighbors and I think she would move in with them if she could.

-She loves to sing but mostly does it when she thinks I'm not listening. She knows quite a few songs but will also make up her own when she is playing. I love hearing her little voice.

-I don't really feel that I have done my sweet girl justice. It's pretty hard to describe her personality in so few words. She has such a sweet spirit, the most beautiful nose-scrunched smile, and she finds joy in the tiniest things. I love watching her as she soaks up everything around her and I still can't believe she's ours. We are so, so blessed.

As far as pictures, it's pretty much impossible for me to keep her still enough for a picture these days. When I do convince her to stand still she usually gives me her "cheese" smile! We took these a few days ago and I love that they are 100 percent her- from her outfit to her facial expressions. This is my girl!

Happy Half-Birthday my precious girl!! You make my days brighter and my heart full! I love you to the moon and back!!

A Half Birthday Celebration

Yesterday my sweet baby girl celebrated her half birthday! As hard as it is to believe, it's true: Emerson is two and a half years old!  I'm working on a post all about her at this age, but in the meantime I wanted to share some pictures of our "celebration" yesterday. Last year when E turned 18 months, I took her to the zoo in Abu Dhabi. I thought it would be fun to continue the tradition this year.
Oh my! Look what a difference a year makes!

We are so lucky to have the amazing San Diego zoo so close by. We have a membership but I'm sad to say that we haven't used it in months! Luckily yesterday was the perfect day to go. The weather was amazing and there was hardly anybody there. We had such a fun time!

Our first stop was the porcupine exhibit. She still hasn't gotten over her porcupine obsession and insisted that we visit it first.

Emerson does love seeing the animals but I think she loves the gift shops, statues and other random stuff even more.

We spent quite a bit of time at the polar bear exhibit. She looked at the actual polar bears for about 5 seconds and then spent the rest of the time playing.

They have little caves that the kids can crawl through. It was probably  her favorite part of the whole day.

Another big hit is the Sky Safari. It's basically  just an open air gondola. We rode it 4 times and she was just as giddy each time.

I also took her to a 4d movie. It was only about 15 minutes long so it was perfect.  The special effects were really fun but I have to admit that parts of it were a little scary for Emerson- especially when the dinosaurs roared right in our faces.

We finished off our day with a giant ice cream cone because that's what you do for half birthdays!
It was such a great day with my girl and I'm so glad we went! I hope we can make it at least one more time before Adelyn arrives.

Surgery Success

Well we finally made it to surgery day! We knew after Jesse had his first surgery that he would eventually have to go back under to have the two largest screws removed from his leg. When he first had surgery we were told it would be within 6 weeks. It actually ended up being 3 months to the day!! I have to be honest and say that it was a LONG 3 months for all of us. Jesse is so tired of his crutches and he's ready to walk again. Hopefully this big step will get him on his way.

The night before surgery Jesse was told not to eat or drink anything after midnight. We were scheduled to arrive at the hospital at 10:00 AM the next morning. Of course, they called us around 8:00 to tell us to wait until 1:00. Poor Jesse had to go all day without anything to eat or drink. That was probably one of the worst parts. We dropped E off with our neighbor around noon and made our way to the hospital. As with most hospitals, everything took longer than expected and Jesse wasn't taken back for surgery until almost 3:00.

Before he went back he made a little note on his leg to remind the doctors what they were supposed to be doing. I'm sure they were really amused.
Luckily the surgery only took about 30 minutes and Jesse was out of the anesthesia recovery room in less than an hour. I was SO nervous about seeing him when he came out. I think I'm still a bit traumatized from the last time when he just looked so sad and pitiful. This time he came out with a smile on his face!
They took us to a separate recovery room so that he could eat a bit and let the drugs wear off completely. Pain wise he was feeling pretty good at this point but he was definitely nauseous. It wasn't fun but it was about a million times better than last time.

We were finally discharged around 6:20. Jesse was already up and about on his crutches. I was really worried about whether he would be in too much pain but he felt pretty good. He also left with two pretty crazy souvenirs.
It's pretty weird to think that those were just in his leg hours before.

We were both pretty nervous about him going back on the operating table but luckily this procedure wasn't anything nearly as bad as the first. He's made so much progress pain wise so we were really nervous about how this would affect that. It's been two days and he is recovering really well. We are both so excited and feel like a huge weight has been lifted. This was the big step needed to get him up and walking without crutches. He'll return to physical therapy next week and soon after he'll be able to start putting some weight on that leg. The goal right now is to have him walking without crutches by the beginning of January.

It has definitely been a very long process but hopefully it can only get better and better from here. I can't wait for the day when we can burn those crutches! :)

Baby Gear Wants

One of the big benefits of having another girl is that we already have pretty much everything we need when it comes to baby gear. We are reusing Emerson's crib and we already have a carseat, pack n'play, and pretty much all of the other essentials. That being said, that doesn't keep me from wanting for a few new things too. Some of these are actually useful things that would be a big help, but others are just splurges that would be nice to have. At this point, I don't know if I'll end up buying any of these things but it sure is fun to look!

More Randoms

I have been really bad about taking pictures lately but I have a few things I want to be sure and document here so please forgive this somewhat random and almost pictureless post!

-On Halloween we bought Emerson a new twin sized bed. We knew we were going to use her crib for Adelyn so we figured it was time to go ahead and get it out of her room and moved to the nursery. Let me tell you- I wish we would have done it months ago. E went from getting up around 6:00 every morning to sleeping until between 8:30 and 9:00. I've even had to go and wake her up some mornings! I guess she just needed a bigger, comfier bed. I haven't taken any pictures but I will soon!

-We got the nursery painted this weekend! Jesse is such a trooper! Even though he is still on crutches he still helped paint the room. He would either balance on one leg or sit down on the ground while also doing the trim or rolling. I know it was twice as much work for him as it would be normally so I especially appreciate it.
We also put big sister to work. She didn't like it one bit! :)

-I have a vision in mind for the nursery (thanks to Pinterest) and now I'm just working on finding the little pieces that I need to make it come to life.  It's been kind of like a treasure hunt and it's fun every time I find something that will work!

-Speaking of Jesse's leg, tomorrow is the big day! Jesse is having a second surgery to have the two large screws removed. We've been told that it's a minor surgery and shouldn't be nearly as painful as the first one. Once his incisions heal he should be on the road to walking without crutches! To say that is has been a super long process just doesn't even do it justice. We are so ready for him to be back on two feet again!

-I will be 30 weeks tomorrow! I completely missed doing a bumpdate last week but I'll do my best to get one up tomorrow. I can definitely tell that baby girl is growing!

I think that's about it for today! If you could spare a prayer for Jesse's surgery and recovery tomorrow we would greatly appreciate it!

A Sneak Peak

On Thursday we had an appointment for a 3d/4d ultrasound. I chose to go back to the same place that did we went to when we found out we were having a girl. It was pretty strange going back there because our last visit was 2 days before Jesse's accident. What a crazy 15 weeks it's been since then!

Anyway, Adelyn was being pretty stubborn at first and we really weren't getting a good view. She had her foot up and it was covering most of her face. Luckily we had the nicest tech and she really took her time even though our session was only supposed to last about 15 minutes. With a little bit of manipulation of the belly and a lot of patience, we were able to get some really great shots. Her foot is still up by her eye in most of them but you can still make out her sweet little features pretty well. I think we got about 60 on our CD but I won't share them all. Here are just a few of my favorites:

I about died when she smiled this sweet little grin. I can't wait to see this smile in person!

Her estimated weight is about 3 lbs, which is right on track where she should be. The tech also said that it looks like she's still pretty bald. Emerson didn't have much hair so I won't be surprised if Adelyn is the same way.

I put a few of the pictures next to some of Emerson's newborn pictures and I really feel like they look so much alike. It will be really neat to see just how similar (or different) they really are. Either way I know that this is already one very loved baby girl!
