I've been working on backing up our photos (again! I'm so paranoid about losing them) and I've loved looking back over the last year. 2013 has been a big year for us. We've had a lot of change and some very unexpected events. So, here are some of our big moments of 2013, in pictures:
Jesse was promoted and Emerson and I were able to be there to celebrate with him!
We finally left Abu Dhabi and made the long trip back to the United States. We spent a few weeks with our families before making the drive out to our new home in California.
We moved into our new place and finally started receiving some of our shipments that were scattered from one end of the earth to the other.
This was the month for exploring and taking in a lot of what our new city has to offer. Emerson started dance and gymnastics and we visited the zoo several times.
We got the best news ever and we celebrated our first baby turning two!
June was all about pre-deployment prep. We took a trip to Texas and spent lots of time as a family before Jesse's scheduled departure.
The best part of July was sharing our big news with the world.
And then we had to say our good-byes as Jesse headed off for deployment.
A few weeks later we learned that we were adding another precious baby girl to our family.
And then, just two days after that I got the shock of a lifetime when I received the call that Jesse had been injured in Afghanistan.
What can I say about August. It was by far the hardest month of the entire year. From waiting for Jesse's arrival home, to watching him go through surgery and recovery.
I took Emerson to her first Disney on Ice performance. It was a hit!
We also found our church home when a brand new church launched in September. We attended a church potluck along with several preview services and were instantly hooked.
October was filled with tons of fun Halloween festivities and a wonderful road trip to Texas.
In November Jesse had surgery number two. Luckily this one wasn't nearly as brutal as the first time around. This was the true beginning of his recovery!
We celebrated Thanksgiving with our neighbors and ate a yummy dinner at a nearby resort.
December was spent prepping for baby Adelyn and squeezing in as much Christmas fun as possible!
2013 was a trying year, without a doubt! But we had so many amazing moments and we have been blessed so very much. Although I would never choose for Jesse to be injured or to watch him go through the pain of surgery and recovery, I am so thankful that it brought him home to us. We have been able to spend so much time together as a family and he was able to be here for so many big moments in Emerson's life and the entire pregnancy. Best of all, he will be here for the birth of his second daughter. We may not always understand it, but I know for sure that God has a plan for our family and part of that plan was to bring Jesse home. Now we are ready to say farewell to 2013 and hello to 2014! Here's to a happy and healthy New Year!!
