A Visit to the Dentist

12.10.2013

Yesterday Emerson had her very first dental appointment. I've been telling her for a while that we would be going soon and every time I did she would say that she didn't want to go. The night before she was super tired and a bit grump and she just cried and cried when I told her we were going to the dentist the next morning. We had read an Elmo book about visiting the dentist several times before, but other than that I didn't really prepare her in any way.

When she got up yesterday morning she was in a great mood. She remembered that we were going to the dentist and told me again that she didn't want to go. I reminded her how brave she was last time she went to the doctor and how nice the doctor was and told her that the dentist would be the same way.  From that point on she  didn't seem nervous at all. She talked a little bit about some of the parts we had read in the book and kept telling me the whole way there that the dentist would be nice.

I chose a pediatric dentist in an office that only sees children and I'm so glad I did. Every one there was incredibly friendly and they were all so sweet with Emerson. We were called back right away and the whole appointment took less than 20 minutes. I took a few pictures to document the day. They're with my phone so they're not the best, but I still have to share.

She looked like such a big girl getting her x-rays.

After X rays they sent us to a little waiting area. They had video games and even though E didn't really know how to play she was happy just holding the remote.

Next up was the exam and the cleaning. I was so proud of how well she did for this! She had her teeth examined, polished, flossed and treated with flouride. The ceiling had a tv in it so when she was done she kept saying that she was watching a movie in the air.
She was also pretty excited about the little sunglasses they gave her to wear.

She got a great report and a princess prize for doing such a great job.
Neither of us had anything to be nervous about because I don't think it could have gone any smoother. Let's just hope her next appointment in 6 months goes just as well. She'll be three by then and I'll also have a 5 month old! Eeek!

I NEED to go with Ell so bad! She is horrible about brushing her teeth, so I am imagining the worst. Can you tell me where you went? I'm still not sure how close we are to each other, but I'd love to know where it was. Maybe we could go there too! Sounds like a great experience. Way to go Emerson!!! And her outfit is so adorable!

I thought she'd hesitate going to the dentist! Good thing she still considered visiting. Hehe! I'm sure she'll do better in her next session since she already saw that the dentist isn't something to be feared. Well, she might aim for another princess prize, or another fantastic movie on air. Congrats on the successful visit! :)

Susan Horby See mum you really did not have to worry so much. Great for Emerson that the visit went well and same with the report card. I also think the staff did a great job with Emerson to detract and have some fun. Next series of appointments will be a breeze now!
