2 Years, 3 Months, and a Whole Lot of Sass

Emerson has grown and changed so much since her birthday, I thought it was about time to to do a little update on her. I also wanted to share the pictures that Jamie took during our family portrait session.

I will never get tired of this sweet smile!

-She is still super sweet and lovable. She loves to give hugs and kisses and always tells us that she loves us so much or loves us with all her heart.

-She loves music and always requests kid music when we get in the car.

-She is genuinely happy 95 percent of the time. Her smile lights up the room and you can tell when she is truly excited because her nose is scrunched up all the way.

-She loves to dance. She is still doing dance class but we haven't been in the last three weeks. I know she will be excited to go back next week.

-She went through a little phase of what I like to call the super terrible twos. This was about the time that Jesse left and seemed to last until about last week so I don't know if his being gone had anything to do with it. But there were days that I just didn't even recognize her. She was so grumpy and mean and our days were full of the worst tantrums. I would cry just wondering where my sweet baby went. Luckily I really do think it was a phase because she seems to be back to herself.

-She has always been a really good eater but she's gotten a bit pickier these days. Some days she will eat everything I put on her plate and others she won't touch anything. She prefers raw vegetables over cooked and likes to dip them in ranch.

-She loves cereal with milk but she will usually drink all of the milk out of the bowl and just leave the cereal.

-She loves to paint and color with markers, play with blocks and dolls, and play dress up.

-She sleeps from 7:30 PM to about 6:00 AM and usually takes a 2-3 hour nap every afternoon.

-She loves anything cupcake related. She is still obsessed with her cupcake duplo blocks and I recently bought her some tiny erasers that are food shaped. She has carried around the little cupcake one ever since.

-She really loves watching tv and her favorite movie is Madagascar 3. We've seen it at least 50 times.

-Right now she is really fighting me on fixing her hair. I think our days of pigtails and other cute styles might be gone for a while. I'm lucky if I can get it brushed and out of her face with a bow.

-She's incredibly stubborn and I have to resort to bribery more often than I'd like to admit.

-And on the stubborn note, she is not even close to potty trained. She was using the potty for #2 about 95 percent of the time for the last few months but she has recently decided to hide while she does it instead. We are working on it but I haven't really hit potty training hard. I know she gets it but I guess she's just not interested. I'm hoping we can have it done before Adelyn arrives.

-She really loves babies and is quite obsessed with her baby sister. She loves to lift up my shirt and kiss my belly and she goes around saying "I love baby Adewyn."

-I know every parent says this, but she is just so smart and she has the most amazing memory. She will bring up stuff that happened months ago and remember every detail. She constantly amazes me with the things she says!

-Our neighbors Rainie and Lily are her best friends. She talks about them all the time. If she hears them outside she immediately goes to the front door so she can go out and see them.

-She is getting better at independent play. I will often find her playing with her little people or other dolls. She will have them walking around and having conversations with each other. It's so much fun to watch her when she doesn't know I'm there.

-She has no stranger anxiety and really has no problem going into new environments on her own. She's been to several different church nurseries in our search for a church and she has gone right in every time without a problem. I guess as long as there are toys, she is happy!

-I know this goes without saying, but she definitely has my heart and she makes every day better. Yes, she throw tantrums. And she has embarrassed me out in public on more than one occasion. But she has the sweetest smile I have ever seen and a heart of gold. I've said it before and I will say it again and again: I don't know what we did to deserve her but I am so thankful that we get to be her parents. She is definitely the best thing that ever happened to us, tantrums and all!!!

Baby #2: 19 Weeks

How Far Along: 19 Weeks

Size of baby: About the size of an eggplant

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  +10 Yep, another pound this week! I've been eating pretty well so I'm not too concerned, though I wouldn't mind if the gain slowed down just a little bit!

Maternity Clothes: Pretty much all the time except for workout clothes, which are getting tight.

Gender: A baby girl, Adelyn Elise

Movement: Just a day after my last post, I really started to feel her move. She still seems to ball up in one spot and make my belly a really weird shape. During the anatomy scan she was moving all over the place. She had her legs up by her head and looked like a little pretzel!

Symptoms: Hungry, tired, and pretty bad hip pain

Sleep: Still pretty good. I've had a few restless nights but I'm sleeping pretty well for the most part

What I miss: I keep seeing people post about all of the yummy Fall beers and I sure wouldn't mind a sip or two.

Cravings: veggies (especially smoothies/V8 type drinks) Finally!

Best Moment This Week: Seeing our precious girl during the anatomy scan and finding out that she is, indeed, 100 percent girl! Also, I'm excited to finally share her name. Telling everyone makes it more real!

Shopping: I'm really trying not to buy a lot because we have everything of Emerson's, but I do want baby girl to have a few of her own things, too. So far I've bought a few little outfits and a bathing suit that I just couldn't resist. I've also made her a few monogrammed outfits that I just love.

Her Name

We can't wait to meet this precious baby girl!!!

Miscellany Monday

-I was doing a little work on the blog this weekend and I noticed that I've done less than 100 posts this year! That makes me sad because I love looking back at old posts to see what we were up to. So, I'm going to do my best to get back into blogging more regularly!

-On Thursday afternoon, E and I were both needing to get out of the house so we headed to the Y to swim. I hate to admit that we haven't used the pool as much as I thought we would.  I'm hoping to go more over the next few weeks because she just has the best time every time we go.

-While we were drying off she noticed her shadow and started dancing and watching it move. It was so precious.

-Jesse is getting better and stronger every day. He's able to get around a lot more and is able to go up and down the stairs now! He's been sleeping on the couch and I've been sleeping on an air mattress, so it was SO nice to be able to go upstairs and sleep in our bed. He's also been able to spend lots of quality time with Emerson.

-We went to a birthday party on Friday evening for some of our neighbors. They are twin boys and Emerson just loves them. They had a bouncer and she spent at least an hour in it jumping like a crazy girl!
(This isn't from the birthday party but it's cute, so I had to share it!)

-I've finally been motivated to get back into embroidery and sewing. I've made a few shirts for Emerson and baby sister and I have plans for many more!
(Any guesses on baby girl's name?)

My mom made this skirt for Emerson about 7 months ago and I decided it was about time to make a matching shirt. I can't wait to see her in it!

-My dreams came true on Wednesday when I finally got the Vitamix I've been wanting forever. When we were in Abu Dhabi I was juicing almost every day and I loved it. We had to give the juicer back when we moved and I have missed it so much. I thought about getting another juicer but ended up going with the Vitamix instead because it grinds up everything and you don't waste any of the pulp. We have used it 2-3 times every day since we got it. I LOVE it!!

And that's about it for today. Tomorrow is my anatomy scan so I am super excited to see our sweet little baby again! :)

Baby # 2: 18 Weeks

How Far Along: 18 Weeks

Size of baby: About the size of mango

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  +9 pounds (Yikes! I haven't worked out in two weeks and didn't eat very well while I stayed at the hospital with Jesse so I'm not surprised. I am trying to stay around 30-35 pounds so this big gain stressed me out a bit! Time to get back into my workout routine!!)

Maternity Clothes: I am pretty much only wearing maternity clothes now. I've tried a few regular shirts but I feel like they are too short and they drive me crazy! I also tried to wear a pair of denim shorts that I have been able to fit into throughout my pregnancy. Unfortunately I couldn't even button them! I'd say that I have definitely popped this week. Looking back at pictures, I'd say I'm about the size I was at 22 weeks with Emerson.

Gender: A girl (At least according to our ultrasound at 15 weeks. Since then I've read a bunch of stories about people being told incorrectly that early. We have our anatomy scan next week so I'm anxious to see if she's still a girl!!!) Once we get confirmation I will be sharing her name.

Movement: Not a lot of kicks, mostly pressure as if she is pushing on my stomach with her bottom or head. I'm surprised because according to my 18 week post with Emerson I could feel movement on the outside by this time.

Symptoms: I feel like I am starving all the time. I'm trying to make somewhat healthy choices but yesterday I just HAD to have a bagel with cream cheese. It was seriously amazing!

Sleep: I have been exhausted so sleep has been pretty good. I've even taken a few naps during the day.

What I miss: nothing really

Cravings:  potatoes, bagels

Best Moment This Week: Realizing that I am exactly 5 months from my due date! Also, one of my dear friends had her baby boy this week. I have loved seeing all of the pictures of their handsome little guy and it has made me even more excited to have a newborn in the house again!

Shopping: Just two outfits so far. After our anatomy scan next week I'm sure I'll do some more shopping. I'm also excited to start getting out all of E's clothes and hanging them up the closet. I've also been on the lookout for cute coordinating outfits for the girls!

On another note, I didn't get a chance to do a bumpdate last week since we spent most of it in the hospital. I did, however, manage to snap a little belly shot in the bathroom mirror. It's not the most flattering (no makeup and messy hair) but it's real life so I might as well share it! :) I also can't believe the growth of this belly in one week!

Playing Dress Up

A few nights ago around dinnertime, I heard our doorbell ring. I opened the door to find our neighbors standing there in princess costumes. They were playing dress up and wanted Emerson to join in. ( I don't know I've mentioned this but we have the best neighbors ever! The girls are 2 and 3.5 and they are Emerson's best friends! She also loves their mom so much. I am so thankful to have them as our neighbors.)

Anyway, they had brought Emerson a tinkerbell costume to wear. They were going to play at the park with their costumes on. Emerson has never really played dress up and usually fights me to get dressed these days so I wasn't sure how she would feel about the costume, but I decided to give it a try.

I think this picture, showing her first glimpse of herself in the mirror, really says it all:

Y'all, it was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. She was SO excited! By this time it was starting to get late so I had really debated about going to the park but I just couldn't resist after seeing how excited she was.

She danced all over that playground and had the best time with her friends. We ended up staying out there until after dark because she was just so happy.

That was two days ago and I am not exaggerating when I say that she has barely taken that costume off since. It's currently 7:14 am and she's already decked out in the fairy wings.
Looks like I better get on the ball and find her one of her own. At this point I don't know how we are going to give this one back unless we have a replacement. :)

Family Pictures 2013

Back in July we had family pictures made by my amazing friend Jamie, of Jamie Grant Photography. My main priority with the shoot was a getting a "big sister" shot to announce baby #2. I shared those here. Luckily, we also got a bunch of other family shots that I absolutely adore. You guys know how hard it is to get decent family pictures with a toddler, so I was more than thrilled with how these came out. I really tried to narrow it down to less than 10 so that this post wouldn't be overloaded with pictures, but I just couldn't do it. :)

Jamie also got some adorable shots of Emerson that I am just crazy about. I'll be sharing those in a separate post sometime soon.
