Tiny Dancer

4.12.2013

The event that I have anxiously waited for has finally arrived, my baby girl started dance! I have to be honest and tell you that one of the things that I was most excited about was dressing her up. Her teacher wasn't incredibly specific and left colors and styles up to us. I decided to go with a very simple, yet classic look.

Here she is before her first class:

I didn't really get many pictures during the first class because it requires parent participation, but I can assure you that Emerson loved it.
This week, I was determined to get some pictures of my tiny dancer. She's the youngest in her class and also the newest so she spends a lot of the time just watching the other kids.

But she is starting to break out of her shell a little bit more and try some of the moves. They have a recital coming up this summer so we will wait and see if she is ready to participate. Can you imagine how stinkin' cute that will be?

They spend most of the class doing ballet, but towards the end they put on their tap shoes. It's definitely Emerson's favorite part. This was during a little break while the teacher got the music ready:

She's at that stage where she listens when she wants to so I was a big nervous about how she would do but she is so sweet in class and listens to her teacher so well.
When we got home I asked her to show me some of the things she learned at dance:

I don't know if dance is something she will continue to be interested in as she is older and I made a promise to myself that I would never make her do it. In the meantime I am loving her sweet little tutu, her tiny ballet shoes, and those precious little ballerina buns.

Too cute for words. I loved when my girls did dance - their recitals were precious. Now they are both in gymnastics, which is equally as fun!

Oh my goodness is she sweet in that little dance outfit!! I've always wanted Morgan to start dance too, and we will when she turns 3 (the requirement for the studio here). I was never exposed to it as a child and I think I would've loved it! But I'm with you, if she doesn't like it, I won't force anything. How fun!!

So sweet! And how neat that you get to be involved in the class, too. I danced ballet for close to 16 years and loved it. I can't wait to one day (hopefully) have a daughter and enroll her in classes. Although, like you, I will also have to promise to not force it on her too much :-)

She is adorable!

The original owner of the studio I grew up in had a rule of thumb for young dancers.

Start them around 5 with tap, trying jazz around 6, and ballet between 7 and 8. And after that, if they wanted to add on others, they had to take the three core also (once they were older and were more than hobby dancers).

I danced for 16 years...and if I had started younger, I think I would've lost interest in it. I need to find a studio for my little girl by fall when classes start for the year :)
