The Trolley to Old Town

4.08.2013

We live in an area that has mass transit, including a trolley and a pretty large bus system. The trolley has a depot in the town next to us (where we go for all of our errands) so we see it on pretty much daily basis. Every single time Emerson sees it she gets super excited. She's even started asking where the train is when we drive by the area. Last week she started saying, "ride it, momma." And every time she would see the trolley she would beg me to ride it.

On Saturday we decided it was about time to give baby girl her first trolley ride.

Our little fashionista could hardly contain her excitement once we arrived at the trolley station.

We decided to head to Old Town for the day.

Once the trolley actually started moving, Emerson was in heaven.

She really, really loved it.

We were all starving by the time we arrived so we stopped at the first Mexican food restaurant that we found. It was AMAZING. (As I'm sure you can tell by the bean dip all over E's face.)

There are a lot of museums and re-creations of historic buildings to look at, but Emerson was more interested in dancing on the drainage grate.

This picture cracks me up. E dropped her glasses and one of the lenses popped out. She didn't even notice when we put them back on her.

I was SO excited when we found this tree. Jesse's family and I came to San Diego 12 years ago for Jesse's graduation from boot camp. One of the places we visited was Old Town and we have pictures in front of this very tree. I have to go dig them out for comparison...

As you can see, the trip was definitely a success. The trolley ride was a total of about an hour and 40 minutes. While it was plenty for us, Emerson just couldn't get enough. She kept telling us "ride the train again" once we got off.

We did see some interesting characters along the way so it's probably not something I would do myself but I can definitely foresee another family ride on the trolley. We'd do just about anything to see that precious grin again.

Emerson is such a sweetheart! I love her outfit and adorable shoes! Love how excited she was about the trolley.

I love seeing pictures of Old Town. My family used to vacation in San Diego when I was a kid and we always went to Old Town for Mexican food. I'd love to go back and bring my family! San Diego is such a great city.

I used to take the coaster to old town from Oceanside everyday and then take the trolly to SDSU for school. :) I sort of miss it now.

That looks like so much fun! Did you ever ride the Tarantula train here? I haven't been on it since a field trip in elementary school, but I'm thinking Liam would love it. I'm putting it on our to-do list now! And I just can't get over E's sun hat! She looks like a California girl!
