Read More, Internet Less

I used to call myself a reader. It was not uncommon for me to read 4 or 5 books a month, especially during the summer. After Emerson was born I kept my reading up pretty well. I didn't read quite as much as I had before, but I often read while I was nursing her so I did make my way through several books. Once I weaned her, I guess I weaned myself from books too because I think I only read 1 or 2 books the last 6 months of 2012.  I'd like to say it's because I don't have the time, but let's face it. If I have time to get on Instagram, Facebook, or the blog then I have time read.

Anyway, I knew that I wasn't happy with the fact that I wasn't reading as much so I made it my goal to read at least 25 books in 2013. Here's what I've read so far this year:

And, of course, I've been sticking with my daily Bible reading using the YouVersion app. I am officially halfway through the Bible. Let me tell you, some of those chapters in the Old Testament are no joke. It has bee a challenge to continue reading through them and I probably can't recap a lot of what I've read, but I am definitely learning a lot as I go.

I'm also (sort of) reading two books at the moment. I say sort of because I just pick them up randomly and read, but I haven't really been reading every day.

At the rate I'm reading, I'm thinking I'll be able to reach my goal of 25 books AND complete the Bible. That being said, I still feel like I could read more. If I spent some of the time that I waste on Pinterest and other things online, I would probably finish my books a little bit faster. I've even developed quite a list of books I really want to read this year. Here's what's at the top of my list:

I really need to head to the library and see if they have any of these on hand. I love reading them on my phone but it would be nice not to spend 10 bucks per book. :)

Have you read anything good lately?

I started reading Unglued but got derailed on another book. I am going to finish it though. I can send it to you after I'm done if you want.

I have been on again/off again with reading this year too. I read about 3-4 books earlier this year, during winter, but we've been spending so much time outside as long as the weather is nice and then I am just drained each night. Probably once all my shows go off for the summer, I will pick it back up.

I haven't been reading NEARLY as much now that we have two kids, as I would like. The past few years, I tried to set a goal of 24 books for the year, and kept failing so I aimed low this year, at 12 books, and am hoping to get on board. I've gotten through 4 so far ... not nearly as good as I would like, but better than nothing. And I have two I'm bringing with me on a kids free vacation, so hopefully I can finish both of those!

LOVE some Karen Kingsbury, too!!

I need to do this as well! Hubby and I have actually just started a no TV/phones/computer until 7 p.m. rule, so now would be a great time to start reading again!

I set a goal of reading 25 books this year too. With a newborn, that's no joke! :) I really liked Kitchen House--not my typical read but I thought it was good. Expats was also good too! :)

I love that you are a reader too! I love reading and have been trying to read more... It's easy to put it on the back burner. I love how you've been posting about reading the Boble and your dedication to it has inspired me to read it too! I downloaded the app that you mentioned and I'm loving how it makes reading it easy! Thank you for inspiring me!

Oh I wish I loved to work out at home! I have SUCH a hard time motivating myself to work out at home. There are a ton of other things at my fingertips that I need/want to do that I will do instead. I have found that it is better for me to get away from home to exercise but gym membership is expensive and not easy to get out all the time with two babies. Do you have any suggestions for dvd's or online workouts that would be good for me- super out of shape and post-baby?! ;) Also,
do you have any experience exercising while breast feeding? I am a little worried it might decrease supply, etc. ?

Um, sorry- I thought I clicked on your exercise post which I had read previously but I guess I didn't! I am too lazy to delete it and re-post it on that post! Reading is something I need to do more of, too! ;)
