So this year we decided that we were going to get a little bit crazy and actually go out on a date- just the two of us! We took the plunge and found a well recommended babysitter and we made reservations for what we had heard was THE best steakhouse in the city. I went through my closet to find the perfect dress and I made preparations for the babysitter for at least a week.
Although I felt really confident with the babysitter we chose I have to be honest and tell you that I was still a little hesitant to leave Emerson behind. I don't know why it's so hard for me, but it is. Of course, before we left we had to get a few family shots, just like we did last year.
And just for comparison, here is the one from last year. I'm thinking this should be an annual ritual but she would barely let us do it this year so who knows how she'll be next year!
For the next two hours Jesse and I sat and talked about anything and everything. Of course, there were lots of conversations about E sprinkled in. I mean, what can I say, that little girl is our world!
We had an amazing appetizer of lobster and scallops along with the perfect glass of red wine. And then we ate the very best steaks we have ever eaten. Being from Texas, I think that says a lot!
We finished out the evening with a little birthday dessert and a few more pictures.
Although we had the babysitter for as long as we wanted we were headed home by 10:00. What can I say? Jesse is 32, after all.
The whole way home we talked about what a perfect evening we had. From the amazing food to the quiet conversation, I don't think either of us could have asked for a better night.
Unfortunately our dream night turned into a nightmare about 30 minutes after we got home. As we were getting ready for bed we both started feeling quite sick and within the hour we realized that we had a terrible case of food poisoning. I won't go into details but let me just tell you that we both thought that we were going to die. Neither of us got any sleep at all and we were both like zombies when Emerson woke up the next morning.
Luckily she was a complete angel all day and just played with her toys while we laid on the couch in misery. I honestly can't think of another time I have been that sick (except maybe morning sickness) and I thought it was never going to end! Luckily, by this morning Jesse and I both started to feel 100 percent better. I am SO thankful to be back to myself. I felt so bad not being able to play with E yesterday so I am taking full advantage of our time together today.
As I'm sure you can guess, Jesse's birthday didn't go down quite the way we expected but I can easily say that it is one that we will NEVER, ever forget.
