Advice from a New Momma {A Guest Post}

8.08.2012

I am thankful for the opportunity to be a guest blogger for Tami.  She's one of my favorite bloggers and I always enjoy reading her "Little Moments Like This". There is something about her and her family that gets me... I guess it does for 388 other bloggers too.  Thanks Tami for the opportunity to be a guest!

I'm Anna from m Anna from A Pair of Kings. Soon enough though (when I have time), I plan on changing the name & look of our blog to better suit the new us.  So A Pair of Kings... Why?.. Why?  Our last name is King and for the past 3+ years it's just been my husband and I.  Until about 7 weeks ago.  Our lives changed forever when we welcomed our son, Kaden, into the world!

Now it's not just a pair...but 3.

I know there are a lot of new mothers (or soon-to-be new mothers) out there, so I thought I'd give my unasked for advice.  You'll get too so much advice as you go through pregnancy and the transition to being a new mother, as I did.... but in my (and my husband's) opinion, what follows is the only advice we needed-

1. sleep when he's sleeping
Amen to that!  I don't always do it, but I wish I did because I feel so much better afterwards.  I'm an-8-hours-of-sleep kinda girl, so only getting a few hours of interrupted sleep a night as been a challenge for me.  The naps really feel good!

2. enjoy every minute because he'll grow so fast
100% agree.  Gosh, his features have already changed so much!  He was born 6lbs 15oz and he's already up around the 10lb mark.  I already have his newborn clothes folded in a pile, ready to give away.

3. accept help
We were spoiled so much by our friends!  They offered to come over and help us in any way they could.  The best part were the meals that everyone brought for us.  I told my husband, I will definitely be making my new mommy friends meals when it's time.  That was the best gift we could have received!  There is nothing like a good meal when you're sleep deprived!

4. love on him
We heard this from Kirby's mom the most.  "Just remember to love on him"... she'd say at some point during her every-other-day phone call.  We learned quickly that it wasn't hard!

Great advice. They are all things that we did. However we didn't really hav a whole lot of people bringing food.....that would have been super helpful! We did however do that for a friend of ours when they had their baby! The only other piece of advice I would give for a mother/father to be, is to make sure you have someone you feel completely comfortable with stay, at least, the first night with you, in case you need help! Great post and congratulations, he is beautiful!

He is a doll! I love all of his hair. People bringing over meals was one of my favorite parts too because I didn't care a thing about cooking - all I wanted to do was stare at my sweet new baby!
