Standing the Test of Time

7.03.2012

It was almost ten years ago and our lives were so different. I was a young newlywed living in a strange new place. I hadn't had the chance to meet very many people and I was feeling pretty lonely.

That all changed when Jesse came home from work and told me that he had met a guy in his Humvee class and he had invited him and his wife over for dinner. He said that they both thought that we seemed to have a lot in common and would get along great.

That night, everything changed because I made a best friend for life. Since that night in the spring of 2002, we have been through several deployments and a couple of moves. Sweet new pets. Holidays away from home and sad goodbyes.  Graduations and new jobs. First and second homes and the births of precious children. We have grown from 20 year old newlyweds to 30 year old parents with a mortgage and plenty of crazy stories to tell.

And even though ten years have passed and our lives have changed so much we are still as close as ever. A separation of thousands of miles and many, many years has not changed our friendship in the slightest. We are, and always will be, the very best of friends.

Last Monday, when we finally saw each other for the first time in seven years, it was as if not a day had passed.

We picked up right where we left off and we talked about anything and everything. We shopped 'til we dropped and watched our darling girls form their own special friendship.

There are some people in life that you know you can count on no matter what. Mandy is one of those people to me and I will be forever grateful for her friendship because I know it's the kind you may only find once in a lifetime. Even when we go months without talking on the phone, we can pick up right where we left off. She is a sounding board for me and we share many of the same ideals and beliefs and she is always supportive. With her, I can be myself. I never feel like the need to impress her and our friendship is not a competition. She has been there for me at my worst and cheered me on at my best. I am so thankful to have her in my life.

I love you, girl and I had THE best time this week. Thanks for the amazing memories!
