Our Independence Day

7.09.2012

We were excited to spend the 4th down at the lake this year. We headed down on Tuesday and stayed all the way until yesterday.  It was the best time and Emerson is definitely a little lake girl.

I think one of our very best days was the 4th itself. We tried to do quite a few fun things to keep the girls busy.

We started the day with a little dress- up session. Emerson loved her patriotic tutu (thanks Sam!)
And here she is last year, just for comparison. How in the world was she ever that tiny?
Then we headed to the tiny town near the lake house to watch an Independence Day parade. Unfortunately we were parked on the wrong street (along with about 25 other people) and by the time we realized it, we had missed the parade. Haha! Story of my life! ;)
So we headed to the little festival they were having and then we walked around and looked at the historic buildings.
Emerson got to meet their school mascot, a matador, and she was in love. She even planted a big ol' kiss on his nose.
She also met some little friends along the way.

Then we headed home to rest before a big night of fireworks. Before heading out, we decided to let the girls decorate sugar cookies. Emerson enjoyed decorating her cookie but she enjoyed eating it even more. And, of course, she had her sweet cousins to help her.

Later in the evening, Emerson took her very first boat ride. She looked so cute in her little life jacket, but she could barely move in it!

I loved seeing her reaction when we really picked up speed.
It was so much fun seeing her face during all of these fun new things and it was especially exciting to see her reaction to fireworks. She loved them!
We had a really special 4th this year...
but there was one thing missing: Jesse. This was our second year in a row to spend the 4th without him. Hopefully we will all be together next year.

Such a beautiful little girl! I love the first 4th and current 4th photos! I know this isn't post specific but I remember reading about Emerson signing things to tell you what she wants etc. I am having a baby in November and I'm intrested in learning about this. Is there any advise or guidance you can give as to what you used to help out teaching her? Thanks so much!!
