Our Little Sunshine's First Birthday: The Details

6.18.2012

I am not exaggerating when I say that we were working on party stuff until the very last minute.  Two days before the party we had a huge storm and my parents' yard was covered in limbs and debris. To top it off, their huge cedar tree (about 35 feet tall) was blown over in the front yard. Instead of working on party crafts, we spent most of Wednesday cleaning up the yard.
Needless to say, we had to get everyone involved in the party prep once the yard was cleaned up.  There is no way we would have been ready without the help of our grandmas, my brother and sister-in-law, my nieces, my step-brother, and my parents. Every single person pitched in. And Jesse really embraced his crafty side.

And I have to say a special thank you to my wonderful sister-in-law, Michelle, who took over 400 pictures on the big day. Thanks Michelle! You're the best!

Since I have so many pictures and so much I want to share, I'm going to break it up into a couple of posts. Here are some of the details from Emerson's You are my Sunshine party. (You'll see that it pretty much turned into a hot pink and yellow polka dot party with a few sunshines thrown in. ;)

The Highchair:
My Mom searched high and low for a Jenny Ling highchair so we were beyond excited when she found one for 15 bucks on an online yard sale.
After a fresh coat of paint, it was good as new.

The Smash Cake:
It was made by my Mom and decorated by Jesse's grandmother. We put it on a styrofoam circle and set it on a pink depression glass candlestick holder. We used several pieces of the pink depression glass on the treat table. I thought it tied in perfectly with the theme and colors.

The favors and the guest book:
We had planned on putting the sun cookies in little bags for favors but we ran out of time and decided to do these little striped suckers instead. The kids loved them!

We used a You Are My Sunshine board book for the guest book. It was simple, but turned out really cute.

The table and the treats:

The Banners:
My Mom has a Silhouette so she used it to cut out all of the pieces and I put them together with tulle and ribbon. That thing is really neat and now I want one!

The Monthly Pictures:
My Mom cut out frames with her silhouette and I used hot pink place card holders from Hobby Lobby to hold them. We set it up on the buffet in the dining room- with a big sparkly E to top them off. :)

The Party Hat:
My Mom made the pieces for this with her Silhouette and we glued them on to a regular party hat. Then I just used marabou and ribbon to fancy it up.

The Outfit:
Mimi made the onesie and bloomers and I made the tutu, headband, and the blinged out converse. My Mom found the Converse on clearance for $9.99 and the jewels and ribbon cost about 6 bucks. Much more affordable than the 90 dollar ones I saw on Etsy. :) I used a tutorial I found on You Tube to make the tutu. It was a little full for our little munchkin but it still looked really cute.

So that's it for the details of the party. I was really happy with how everything turned out and I thought it was the perfect reflection of our girl's sweet little personality.

Check here for pictures of the birthday girl in her darling little outfit and here for the actual party pictures.

First of all that tree is enormous that fell!! Second of all, I LOVE that your entire family helped prepare for the party, how special that made it. Third, we got the same high chair off Craigslist (at least I think it looks similar) for 15 bucks but it didn't come with a tray. Did yours? I love all the details you put into her party and can't wait to hear more about it!
