At the beginning of the year I made a goal to make monthly meal plans for our family. A few weeks ago I decided to subscribe to E-Mealz because I knew that I would get a weekly meal plan and grocery list without having to put any time or effort into it. :) I loved it the first week, but by the second week I wasn't quite as pleased. By the third week (this week) I was actually rather disappointed. I felt like the meals were haphazardly thrown together and were more like convenience foods than actual meals. For example, one night the menu consisted of French Toast casserole and bacon. Now I'm all about breakfast for dinner but that is just not a well rounded meal. That being said, we were loving having a set menu and grocery list. There was no question about what we were going to eat because it was already picked for us. I knew for sure I wanted to keep going on the same track, but with better recipes.

So, I turned once again to my Pinterest recipe boards. I have hundred of recipes pinned and I've hardly tried any of them. I started writing out a meal plan and making a grocery list when I decided to check out the App store to see if there was any kind of app that could help me out. That's when I came across Paprika. At $19.99 it is a little bit on the expensive side but I think it's worth it for the ease of use! It allows you to import recipes from any site- some with just a click of a button. Even the ones that aren't one click only require about a minute from start to finish. I quickly imported the recipes I wanted to try this week and then added them to my weekly menu. Here's a screenshot of one of the recipes I added.


With one click I had a printable grocery list and meal plan. This is what the grocery list looks like after you make your meal plan. You can add or remove items as needed.


The best part is that it syncs with the iPad so when you are ready to cook you have all of your recipes for the week right there! I can't tell you how many recipes I've printed and then thrown away because I didn't feel like filing them. I'm happy that I might be able to finally get rid of all of my paper recipes and I won't be scrambling at the last minute to get each recipe printed when it's time to make dinner.

Seriously, you can't beat the ease of this app for menu planning! I'm really hoping that this is going to help us continue our goal of cooking at home and maybe I'll become a better cook along the way. :) Hey... a girl can dream!

Anyway- I thought it would be fun to share our menu for the week. I know I'm always looking for meal ideas and I love finding new recipes on blogs. All of the recipes below are linked to their original source.

Sunday- Stuffed Pepper Soup  (We already made this today and it was SO good!)
Monday- Crockpot Buffalo Chicken, Cauliflower Fritters
Tuesday- Seared steak with caramelized onions,  Garlicky Baked Fries
Wednesday- Cilantro-Lime Jalapeño Chicken Salad
Thursday- Spinach and Feta Quesadillas
Friday- Balsamic Bruschetta Chicken, Asparagus Gratin

If you're interested in following this menu, I'd be more than happy to email you the printable grocery list. If you have a Mac, I  definitely recommend getting Paprika pronto. I feel like I'm finally going to try out all of those Pinterest recipes I've pinned!

Sounds like a yummy menu! We are still liking e-meals but maybe the low carb menus are a little more well rounded? However, I did take a week off this past week to make Pinterest meals. It was fun but a couple weren't that great. LOL. Could've been chef delinquency though. ;) I would consider that app, but we have no mac or ipad...just an iphone but that would probably get a little annoying with everything so small.

Sounds like you found something great for your family! I'd also recommend www.skinnytaste.com - it gives you all nutritional facts, WW info and you can save to a "recipe box" and create a shopping list with one click (like above I think). Best part, it's all free :) Just a thought; works great for us.

I just posted my menu for the week on the blog... I got it all from Pinterest :)
It's seriously the FIRST time this year (2012) that I've had a whole week's menu planned! I'm a bad wifey :)

Ive been looking for something like this for a while! So will it let you import from any website or do you still have to put in the items? I found a menu planner app that I can put in recipes but not import them straight from blogs. Thanks for any info!
