The Dress Code and a CAMELcinno

My parents made it in late Thursday night and we have been soaking in every second together for the last few days. We've spent lots of time playing with Emerson and eating yummy food and we've also tried to take in some of the local sights. Of course I have taken tons of pictures so I will be sharing them over the next week.

The first night they were here we decided to go out for Italian food. Before we left, I scoured the website to make sure there wasn't a certain dress code. I couldn't find anything so I figured we were all fine in our current outfits. We were in for quite the surprise when we arrived and learned that Jesse couldn't come in because he was wearing shorts. Luckily, they offered to let him borrow a pair of pants.  I don't know how in the world they thought those pants looked better than shorts but we all got a great laugh about it.

They were super tight and about 4 inches too short.  I think Jesse was a little sad when he had to get them back at the end of the night. :)

Yesterday we were lucky enough to get a private tour of Emirates Palace.  We were so excited that we got to see the Christmas tree in the lobby. It was supposed to have been taken down at the beginning of January but they left it up for some of their VIP guests. Though they said it was scaled way down this year, we were all pretty impressed.

We learned during the tour that the hotel cost over $3 billion dollars to build. There are over 1,100 chandeliers in the hotel and each is made with Swarovski crystals. Everything is also covered with gold and silver leaf which is replaced every couple of years. It's just beautiful!

After our tour, we were invited to the coffee shop for coffee, tea sandwiches, scones, and cake. My Mom and I were excited when we saw "caramelcinno" on the menu and both decided that's what we would order. Before the waiter came I looked back over the menu one more time and about died when I realized that the drink we wanted actually said camelcinno because it was made with camel milk! Needless to say we did NOT order the camelcinno. We did get a yummy latte with gold flakes. It was so pretty we didn't want to drink it!

I think Emerson was talking in this picture.

Before we left we stopped by the hotel bakery. The cakes definitely rivaled The Cake Boss! Emerson was a fan for sure.

Who need a Chanel bag when you can have a cake?

We spent the afternoon in a totally different setting which I'll be back to talk about tomorrow. Let's just say it gave me a greater appreciation of what it's like to be under cover.
