Emerson’s First Halloween

Before I get to the good stuff (Emerson’s sweet costume) here are a few pictures of her in her Halloween gear. She’s been celebrating the last few days by wearing her favorite orange and black ensembles. Smile

And finally, here she is in her very first Halloween costume.

I don’t know about you guys but I’d have to say Ariel’s got nothing on her! Thank you, Mimi, for the wonderful costume! It was definitely a hit.

Happy Halloween!!!

Halloween Through the Years

I’ve always loved Fall!  I think it’s a combination of the cooler weather,  getting to wear boots and sweaters, and, of course, Halloween.
For the last several years before we moved to Africa, Jesse and I had tons of fun celebrating by throwing a party at our house. Each year it got bigger and better- and maybe a little out of control. Winking smile
Here’s a look back at just a few of our costumes:
Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf
Dexter and his victim
(Last year I didn’t want to dress up because I was pregnant and not feeling too hot but I ended up wearing Jesse’s old wolf costume. He dressed as a local guard.)
And here are some of the yummy (and disgusting looking) treats we had.

This year, things have definitely changed. It’s no longer about the over-the-top parties or the crazy costumes.  Now, it’s all about this little pumpkin and her very first Halloween.

What do you think of my accent? (a vlog)

Happy Friday everyone! I really can’t believe I’m posting this, but I have finally completed my first vlog. I’ve seen this accent/dialect vlog floating around so I thought I’d give it a try.  I think I sound and look like a nerd, but I’m posting it anyways. Don’t judge. Smile

The instructions are to say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you use to change the TV channel?

So, what do you guys think? Do I sound like a Texan? I really don’t think so but I don’t mind if I do. Smile

Ten Years Ago

On October 27, 2001, after almost 4 years of dating, I said “I do” to my very best friend.
It was a little over one month before my 20th birthday and one month after his 21st.  He was a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps and I was a sophomore in college. After we got married, we moved to our first duty station: MCAS NEW River in Jacksonville, North Carolina. We didn’t have much money but it didn’t matter because we were together. It wasn’t always easy, but I can say without a doubt that is was all worth it and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Since that day ten years ago, a lot has happened!
-lived in North Carolina, Africa, and The Middle East
lived in an apartment, a duplex, a one-story home, a two-story home, and a villa
-been through 2 deployments and multiple separations courtesy of the Marine Corps
-bought two homes and sold one

-drank a few beers and done lots of barbecuing
-bought our first new car
-celebrated lots of birthdays and holidays
-adopted 2 precious pups-Oscar and Grace
-graduated from college and grad school
-worked at several different jobs- some good, some not so good
-made, and said goodbye, to lifelong friends

-traveled to Jamaica, South Africa, Germany, Burundi, and the UAE
-bought and learned to ride Harleys
-laughed and cried

- fought and made-up
-lived- and most of all, loved

And now, 10 years later, we have welcomed a baby girl into the world,
and we have finally become a family of three. I can say without a doubt that I am the happiest I have ever been!
Emerson Week 19 027-1
Thank you babe for being the best husband for me and the best Daddy for Emerson.  You have always supported me in everything I have done and I couldn’t ask for a better person to spend my life with. It means the world to me to be able to stay home with Emerson and I am only able to do that because of you.   You are my best friend and my soul mate and I am blessed beyond measure to have you as my life partner. We may not be perfect, but we are definitely perfect for each other. I love you with all my heart and soul.
 Happy Anniversary babe!
