Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

~After another LONG trip I met up with Jesse yesterday in Europe. Even though it's only been ten days since I've seen him, it felt like forever, and I was so happy to see him. By the end of this trip I will have flown over 15,000 miles in about three weeks time..

~Emerson has flown more in utero than I did up until my late twenties. She's going to be a real world traveler.

~All of my flights were good but I was shocked to see my ankles and feet swollen to about twice their size last night. They were officially cankles but thankfully they have gone back down to their normal size. I know it's pretty common in pregnancy but it's much too early for that.

~I am getting huge. My face and arms have definitely filled out. I'd like to blame it on the baby but I'd have to say it's probably from all of the yummy food I have been eating. I will definitely post a bump pic later this week- it's growing too! :)

~I chose a photographer for my maternity shots and Emerson's newborn shots. I love the work she does and I can't wait to see how they turn out.

~It's snowing here! I haven't seen snow-or even cold weather- in so long. It's beautiful! I have to admit I haven't ventured out into it, but I definitely will before the trip is over.

~I will probably be MIA most of this week but I will try to sneak some posts in when Jesse is working.

Sorry for a pictureless post- I haven't taken any pictures yet but I will and of course I will share! Hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Wednesday Lovin'...

2.23.2011

It's Wednesday so I'm linking up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

I'm loving being home in the wonderful state of Texas! There is no better place on Earth!

I'm loving that my Mom bought an embroidery machine yesterday! We are so excited about all of the adorable stuff we'll be able to monogram for Emerson and all of her cousins. Here is the first project we tried:

a cute little giraffe burp cloth
I know this is just the first of many so I will definitely show you what we come up with.

I'm loving that Grace is finally acting like she loves me again. She's actually slept with me the last two nights so I think she has finally forgiven me for leaving her. :)

I'm loving looking at newborn and maternity shots. I'll be scheduling my maternity shots when I get back from my trip and we're hoping to get Emerson's photos taken when she's just a few days old because Jesse will be here and we can get some family shots. I have found two or three photographers that I absolutely love so now I just have to pick one. I think I'll get a few of these adorable props from Etsy, too!

I'm loving these sweet outfits I got for Emerson at Kohls yesterday.  I got 5 different outfits and they were all on clearance so I paid a total of $13.00! Is it strange that she already has Christmas outfits and she's not even born yet?

I'm loving that I'm going to get to see my handsome hubby in just a few days! I'm really looking forward to our little vacation and I'm hoping we get to see a little bit of this:

Obviously I won't be skiing but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy the scenery!

What are you loving this wonderful Wednesday?

Let's Talk Nurseries...

2.22.2011

One of the things I've always looked forward to is decorating the nursery for our first baby. I love looking at pictures of baby rooms and bedding. Unfortunately, we will be doing 2 cross-continental moves before Emerson is 7 months old. Needless to say, this makes putting together a nursery pretty difficult. I'm thinking she will probably sleep in a bassinet or pack n' play until we make our move to our last overseas post. Once we arrive there (wherever it may be) we will finally get to decorate a nursery for her. Even though there will be a little delay in the decorating, it hasn't stopped me from looking for inspiration. I found an adorable site with custom bedding:  Polka Dot Designs.

Here are a few of the designs that I love:

.
I think all of these designs are absolutely precious, but I'm really leaning towards something along the lines of the top three- probably with a pink and brown motif. I love paisley and damask so I know one or the other will definitely be included. I think the pink and white giraffe print is pretty darn adorable too!

I've looked at tons of nursery pics and I have to say that this is one of my all-time favorites. It's girly and sophisticated. Isn't it precious?

I can't remember where I found these pictures, so if they belong to you or you know who they belong to, please let me know so that I can give proper credit. :)
I'm definitely leaning towards white furniture- most likely something like this:

Vista by Sorelle

My friend Mandy got this furniture for her sweet Ann Elise and I think it's just perfect for a little girl. (Thanks for sharing Mandy- I hope you don't mind if our precious girls have the same furniture!) :)
Anyway- as I said before, I won't be able to do any of this for quite some time, but it sure is fun to look and dream. Until I can do the nursery, I'll just have to get my fix by dressing her in as much pink as possible. :)

I'm HOME!

2.21.2011

After 32 hours of traveling, 4 plane changes and a trip through customs, I finally made it HOME last week! :)

It feels so good to be back in the U.S! I haven't done much since I arrived except visit with family, cuddle my babies, and eat! I took my first trip to the grocery store yesterday and it was wonderful! I bought all of the foods I haven't been able to get for the last year: cottage cheese, good milk, ice cream, and cereal. Of course, I've also been to Target and I loved every minute I spent strollling up and down the aisles. I still haven't made it to Wal-Mart but it's definitely on the agenda.

It has been so good to be back with Oscar and Grace. I had been anticipating how they would react when they first saw me and I have to admit it wasn't anything like I expected. They both acted a little stand-offish for the first few minutes. Oscar has accepted me back with open arms paws, but Grace is taking a little bit of time to warm up to me. She's always been my baby so I think she's trying to show me how mad she is at me for leaving her for so long. She's a little priss so I shouldn't be surprised at all. I'm sure they're both tired of the endless kisses and cuddling, but I just can't stop! :)

I don't have a lot planned this week except a doctor's appointment and getting ready for my trip to Europe. I'm excited to see the doctor and hoping he'll schedule another ultrasound for me. I'm also super excited to go to Europe and see Jesse, though I am dreading the trip. At least it's only 14 hours travel time- that's nothing compared to the trip home. It was long but definitely worth it. :)

It's So Hard to Say Goodbye...

2.14.2011

Yep- the time has come. After living here for just under a year, I will be saying good-bye to Africa very soon and heading home to get ready for our baby girl. (I won't give specifics but let's just say I'll be able to shop this week's Target ad- IN PERSON!) :)

Although I am so excited to head back to the greatest country in the world, I am also a little sad. There are a few things that I'm leaving behind that I will definitely miss.

This guy....
I am truly dreading the separation from Jesse. The good news is I'll see him in a few weeks. He's traveling to Europe for work and I'm meeting him there! :) The bad news is that I won't see him again after that until it's time for Emerson's arrival.

Our amazing friends:

Our awesome household staff:
They've become like family to us.

Our gorgeous yard and garden:

The lake and the magnificent mountains:

And I will definitely miss the fresh fruit and vegetables- mainly the pineapple, mangos, and avocados. They are to-die-for and I know I'll never taste anything like them again!

I have to admit that I've been on the countdown to my last day for a while now and I have been SO excited about seeing my family, my sweet dogs, and going to real American stores and restaurants. I honestly didn't think I would be sad to go AT ALL. I guess I was so focused on the awesome things that I had to look forward to, that I forgot about the precious things that I would miss. It is pretty hard to say goodbye...Then again, there are definitely some things that I'm NOT going to miss. That's a whole other blog post though, so I'll save it for tomorrow.... :)

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you are enjoying it with the ones you love!

A Blog Award!

2.12.2011

I am super excited because I got a blog award from the sweet Gabriella! Thanks Gabriella! :)

1. Who/What inspires you?
My fellow military spouses going through deployments, giving birth on their own, and being single mommies while their husbands protect us and our freedom

2.What is your favorite season and why?
I think it would have to be fall. I love when the weather starts getting cooler and the leaves change color. I love wearing sweaters and boots and I LOVE Halloween. :)

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?
meeting our precious baby girl and becoming a Mommy

4. If you could write a book about anything, what would it be about?
When I was teaching I always thought it would be fun to write a book about the funny things that kids say. I know it's been done before though so I guess it wouldn't be that original. Since being in Africa my friends and I have talked about publishing a book of photographs of things you only see in Africa. We'd like to dedicate a whole chapter to funny t-shirts. Seriously, you wouldn't believe the t-shirts we see people wearing here. I think most of them are donations from the States so it's awesome that it helps people in need but it's pretty funny to see a grown man wearing a Ren and Stimpy shirt and having no idea what it even says.

5. What is your greatest passion?
kids- After working in an office setting the last few months I know for sure that I need to get back into the education field (not necessarily teaching but definitely something to do with kids)

6. If you could change one thing about your life or yourself, what would it be.
I honestly don't think I would change anything about my life. It's been pretty good to me so far... :)

7. Lastly, what is your favorite novel?
I love to read so it's hard for me to pick, but one of my favorites that I've read in the last few years is The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It's such a GOOD book and I'm super excited because they are making it into a movie and Patrick Dempsey is playing the main character. I can't wait to see it.

5 people I tag for this award are.....

Rebekah at Life with the Edwards

Ashley at Life After the Aisle

Mrs. Magnolia at Magnolias and Goobers

J at A Girl in Pearls and a Boy with Toys

Lindsay at Sweet American Honey

24 weeks! Wow!

 Pregnancy Highlights:

Size of Baby: The baby is the size of an ear of corn. She is over a foot long and weighs just over a pound.

Movement: I think we have a little gymnast on our hands! She wiggles, flips, and kicks all the time!

Gender: A precious little GIRL!

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Gained 14-15 lbs.

Maternity Clothes: yep

Sleep: Still pretty good. I feel like I am always tired though.

What I miss: working out. I can't wait to start running and lifting weights again.

Cravings: I don't really have any cravings but I am looking forward to eating in American restaurants: Rosas, Olive Garden, Taco Villa.... I can't wait!

Symptoms: I'm still feeling good. My back is still bothering me a little bit, but nothing too bad yet. :)

Best Moment this week: my surprise shower- I am so blessed to have such wonderful friends!

Baby Purchases: None this week but I will be back in the States very soon and the first place I'm hitting up is Target. Enough said! :)

Only 16 weeks to go!!!

A Sweet Surprise

2.08.2011

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but we have an awesome group of ladies at the embassy. I've honestly never met such kindhearted and giving people. We may be a small embassy community but everyone here definitely has very big hearts!
That being said, I was still absolutely blown away on Sunday when they surprised me with a baby shower. Knowing that I'm leaving soon, they had everything shipped directly to Texas and wrapped up pictures of the gifts for me to open.  It was such an awesome surprise and I love everything that we got for Emerson.
Here are a few of the adorable things we received:
Aren't these the sweetest socks you've ever seen?
Love this!

This little lamb plays soothing sounds that are supposed to help the baby sleep. I can't wait to see it in person.

I love the colors in these receiving blankets. Emerson is going to be one stylin' little girl!
I'm so excited about the boppy and adorable cover. I think it's a must-have!

This handy little gadget is for making baby food. This, along with the cookbooks and storage containers, will be awesome when Emerson is ready for solid food.

I only got  a few pictures at the shower and for some reason they didn't turn out very good. There are also a few people missing, but I'll share one of the better ones.

Thank you again ladies for the sweet surprise. Words cannot express how much I appreciate your kindness! I will miss you all so much!

Milspouse Fill-In Friday

2.04.2011

I'm linking up with Wife of a Sailor for Milspouse Friday Fill-In today. If you're a milspouse, be sure to join the fun.

1. Since most of the country has had nasty weather, what has your weather been like this week?
I have been so jealous of the snow everyone is getting. Our weather is the same here year round since it is a tropical climate. We're in the rainy season now since we've had rain a couple of times this week but other than that it's been hot and sunny. I am so excited that I will get back to the States in time to see some cold weather. :)

2. What is/are your best money saving tip(s)?
I guess these aren't really money saving tips, just financial tips in general. I'm a big Dave Ramsey fan and alot of this is stuff that he recommends. I think most of it is common sense but that doesn't mean it's always easy to follow.

-Pay off your credit card every month- never carry a balance. (Dave says no credit cards at all but we bend this rule.)

-Do a monthly budget and stick to it. I use Mint.com and LOVE it.

-Set up an allotment to your savings/investments accounts. If you pay yourself before you even see your paycheck you'll never miss the money!

- Stay out of debt. If you can't afford to pay cash for something, you can't afford it. This means cars, furniture, electronics, etc. (We haven't always followed this but I hope we're able to in the future.)

I am definitely no financial wizard, but I think Dave's advice makes great sense. He says if you live like no one else now, you can live like no else later. :)

When it comes to shopping my biggest tip is to shop the clearance racks, use coupon codes, and don't be afraid to go to stores like Rugged Wearhouse, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx. Yes, you have to be willing to spend the time to look, but you can find GREAT stuff! I do have to admit that I often come with stuff I don't necessarily *need*, though. :)

3. What was your favorite vehicle you’ve ever owned??
My favorite vehicle would be the car I had before we moved here. It was a 2006 Toyota Solara. It was the first (and last) brand new car I bought and I loved it. I called her Pearl. It was a sad day when I sold her but was necessary for our move. I'm looking forward to getting a new (used) car when we move back to the States! :)

4. What is a question you’d like to see asked in a future fill-in? (Your question & blog just may appear one week!)
I would like to see fellow milspouses answer to:
If you could live anywhere overseas, what would you pick and why?
I like this question because we live in Africa and  we will be moving to two other overseas posts. It's fun to see what places others would choose.

5. Fill in the blank: You might be a MilSpouse if….
You might be a milspouse if you plan your life around an upcoming move, only to find out that your orders have changed and you are moving somewhere totally different at a different time of year. And of course, you take all of this in stride, because that's what the military life is all about....

Have a great weekend, everyone! :)
