Lions, Llamas and Goats, Oh My!

12.09.2011

When I heard that there was a small zoo in town I just knew we had to take Emerson. Jesse felt like it would be kind of pointless because she’s so young but we all ended up having a really good time.

It’s currently under construction and it kind of reminded me of a petting zoo because they had about 30 different types of goats and other farm animals. Rumor has it that they even have a Dalmation but we didn’t see it that day. Like most petting zoos, they also sold greens that you could feed to the animals. Almost every animal had an opening in its enclosure that allowed it to stick its head out. Emerson was able to get up close and personal with some pretty cute little guys!

I’m a huge animal lover so I was pretty excited to be able to get close to the animals too.

They were, however, sometimes a little too close for comfort.

Emerson did really well feeding the animals. I was just happy that she didn’t try to eat the leaves herself and she didn’t lose any limbs in the process.

The baby monkeys were so stinking adorable! I could have stayed at their cage and watched them all day, though Emerson didn’t really seem to care too much for them.

She did, however, LOVE the fish. She kept trying to grab them through the tank. I think they kinda liked her too!

She especially loved the seahorse!

We stopped by the giraffe café because I really, really wanted to feed the giraffes. Unfortunately they didn’t come over to the feeding area so we just hung out in the shade for a bit.

The best part of the day was that Emerson met a new friend: a baby lion cub. Isn’t she adorable?

After the zoo we ran a few errands and by the time we got home our little princess was worn smooth out.

I think it’s safe to say that our first trip to the zoo was a success!

Love all of the pictures. She may not remember but you will. E is precious watching the fish. I am so glad she has such wonderful parents and she is getting to see so much. Reading your blog is the highlight of my day. Of course FaceTime is even better. We love you.
