A Series of Unfortunate Events

10.02.2011

I try to be a positive person- especially when it comes to petty stuff. But the last few days it seems like it’s been one thing after another so I need to whine just a little bit.

-We still can’t drive our car. After weeks of searching, we finally found one.  Then we had to figure out a way to get our money from our U.S. bank so we could pay for it. After that ordeal we thought we were golden until they told us the registration takes about two weeks. So we had to park the car and wait for that paperwork to be done. Finally, on Friday we took it for registration only to have it fail inspection! It’s just a small part that needs to be replaced and should be fixed in the next few days, but seriously?!?

-I logged into our bank account on Saturday to find that somebody had stolen our credit card number and put $7500.00 worth of charges in a matter of about 36 hours. Crazy scary, huh? Thank goodness our bank has a zero liability fraud policy and they are reversing all of the charges. We really don’t know how they got our card number but we’re thinking it might be from online somehow. Looks like I won’t be doing anymore online shopping until we have secure internet.

-Yesterday our debit card quit working. I think the fraud team at our bank may have shut it off when they saw foreign transactions. It’s good that they’re watching out for us after the credit card fiasco but it’s still a pain. We’re honestly thinking about starting to use cash only while we’re here.

-Speaking of internet, we STILL don’t have it.  I filled out the application on August 8th and we have been given the run around since then. We have called almost daily only to find that they have canceled our application for some crazy reason or another. After yet another trip to the mall yesterday, they have assured us that they will be here in the next 2-3 days. I’m honestly not holding my breath.

-I am homesick and missing my family and friends so much. I hate that Emerson is not getting to be around her grandparents and cousins.

It’s days like these where we want nothing more than to be home.

BUT- I know none of these things are really that big of a deal. Trust me, I know I have so much to be thankful for and I wouldn’t trade my life for the world, but man it seems like we can’t catch a break lately!  The good news is that I’ve found something that helps relieve my stress and instantly makes me smile.

Despite our rough week, I know we’re super lucky.

It's awesome that you're still finding the good in things, but sometimes, sucky things just happen and there's nothing wrong with being frustrated. Hope things get better soon!

So sorry you're having a bad week. At least you have that sweet pea to make you feel better! Love her little bubble suit!

I feel so bad for you. It's like one thing would have been OK, but not all of it together.

And that smile is so sweet I'm sure it does turn any bad day around pretty quickly!

Aww, I'm so sorry my friend! That is scary about the credit card, but so glad that they're reversing the charges. Things will start looking up for you guys and I'll be praying for you that they do! Hopefully it will start with them turning your internet on in the next day or two AND your car will get fixed. Thinking of you girl. Hugs!! And I miss you!! By the way-this is the MOST adorable picture of Emerson!!!

Ugh..it is true that when it rains it pours. I've recently experienced the "pouring" too! I had my debit card stolen one time, it was a headache to deal with but luckily within about a week's time everything was taken care of. Hope things are looking up for you this week! I know looking at that gorgeous baby's face has to make everything better.
