Lions, Zebras and Hippos- Oh My!

2.03.2011

After all the running around during our first few days in Cape Town, we decided to take it easy on the 6th day. We didn't have any plans except relaxing, eating, and hanging out. Of course, I did take the time to squeeze in a haircut and highlights. I know I've mentioned it before, but I don't have anyone here to cut my hair. That means I usually go 4-5 months without a cut (read: my hair looks like crap most of the time). I was trying to grow it out and planned on only getting a trim, but I ended up getting it cut back into a bob. I just can't stand the in-between stage. I also got some highlights. I really wanted it more blonde like I've had it previously, but I decided to wait until I'm home so that I'll be able to maintain it.

That brings us to our last day of the trip. That's the day we did the one activity that I was determined to do while in Africa: we went on a safari at a game reserve. I love animals so this was right up my alley. We saw everything except the giraffes- they were hiding out that day. Here are a few way too many pictures.

Stopping for a break during the game drive

this baby zebra was SO cute

taking a bath... he was all the way under water for a lot of the time-it was so sweet to see his trunk sticking up like a snorkel

he blew dirt all over himself right after his bath

hakuna matata

this water buffalo took up residence in front of the guest houses they're building on the reserve

the lions were really far away so this is with the zoom lens
After the game drive, we went to an animal rehabilitation center across the street. They had a couple of cheetahs, some lions, and crocodiles. The lions had been rescued from a game hunting park.

Our final stop of the day was an ostrich farm. I'm sure you've all seen ostriches, so I'll leave you with just one more picture.

these little guys were just two weeks old- so precious!

If you made it this far, I hope I didn't bore you to death with all of the animal pictures! It's so hard to choose which ones to post because I.love.them.ALL!

Maybe the water buffalo was just working as MSG for the guesthouses.
