Blog Challenge Days 18-19 What I Miss

10.29.2010

I missed yesterday's blog challenge so I'm going to combine it with today's. Sorry in advance if it's a big long.

Day 19- What I Miss

This is probably the easiest post of all for me because right now I miss everything! We're almost to the 7 month mark of being out of the country which means I really miss:

our family
our nieces and nephews
our friends
our house in North Carolina
our neighbors in NC
our dogs
driving (I don't drive here)
3G phone service
fast internet
Starbucks
grocery stores
American fast food (I didn't eat it much when we were in the US but man I would love some now!)
mexican food
Barnes and Noble
Target
Wal-Mart
being able to walk outside without being stared at
being able to walk outside after dark
my job with MCCS
movies/bowling/other forms of entertainment
malls/stores in general

Ok- from my list it sounds like this place is pretty awful. It's not- really- but it is definitely lacking in modern conveniences. Overall it's a good place with great people but that doesn't mean I don't miss some of the wonderful stuff I'm used to!

Day 18- Something I regret

I would have to say my biggest regret is not bringing these two with us when we moved.

I was so worried about how they would do on such a long trip but several other dogs have made it over the last few months with no problems. I'm so thankful to my parents for taking such great care of them but man I miss them so, so much. I think I would be far less homesick if I had those two little monsters running around. The good news- I will get to see them in about 4 and a half months. I can't wait!!! :)

My second regret is something that was completely out of my hands so I guess it's not a really a regret, but it is something I wish would have turned out differently.

In February my friend and I were registered to do a half-marathon in Myrtle Beach, SC. We trained for about 10 weeks before the actual race day. About a week before the race we did an 8 mile run. It was the longest run I have ever done and somehow I hurt my knee pretty badly. I spent the next week limping around and doing my best to get my knee ready for the big race. I was determined I was going to do it even if I had to limp across the finish line.

Unfortunately this is what we saw when we arrived in Myrtle Beach:

Snow? At the beach? Seriously?
We found out at 1:00 am on race day that the race was canceled. Looking back, I know it was probably a good thing that I didn't run and injure my knee even further. But I really wish we had been able to do it AND I really wish I would have kept training  afterwards. I haven't run in so long that I probably couldn't run 8 miles to save my life!

The good news: I have a goal to complete a half-marathon as part of my 101 list. Of course, that will have to be after baby Lynch is here. I'm thinking it will be great motivation to get back in shape...

The Wonderful Number 9

10.27.2010

The number 9 has a lot of meaning in the Lynch house today. We're thrilled to be celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary. It's hard to believe we were saying "I do" 9 years ago today. I guess it's true- time flies when you're having fun. I'm so lucky to be married to my best friend and I'm so thankful to know I will always have him by my side.

But- the number 9 is important today for another reason. Not only are we celebrating 9 years of marriage, we are also celebrating.....

That's right- the littlest L is due June 1, 2011!

It looks like we might need a few of these:
Needless to say, we are beyond thrilled and can't wait to meet our first little miracle. It's still really early so we would appreciate prayers for a smooth pregnancy and a healthy baby.

On another note- the theme for today's blog challenge (Day 17)  is what I'm looking forward to. I think my post pretty much sums it up. I'm looking forward to celebrating many, many more years of marriage with my wonderful hubby and to the arrival of our little bundle of joy. I have so many wonderful blessings to look forward to!

Blog Challenge Day 16: Dream House

10.26.2010

I love, love, love looking at houses and watching house hunting and design shows.
Here are a few pictures of some houses that I love. Some are reasonable dreams, while others are way out of my league! :)

As you can see, I love all different styles! The only thing I ask is that the house come equipped with a giant walk in closet a la Carrie Bradshaw. :)

Day 15: Favorite Bible Verse

10.25.2010

Here are a few of my favorites:

Challenge Day 14: A Picture You Love

Unfortunately my external hard drive crashed and I don't have access to a lot of my old pictures. (Don't worry- they're backed up on another hard drive. BUT- it's in storage in NC!) :( So- I don't have all of my favorite pictures but I was super excited when I found our other camera a few weeks ago and uploaded the pictures on the memory card. There were a few pictures on there that I forgotten about but they definitely made me smile when I saw them.

I love this picture of my little Gracie because she's doing what she does best: messing up a freshly made bed.

And here's my handsome boy Oscar doing his favorite thing: rolling in the dirt (after a bath, of course).
Can you tell I'm crazy about these two? I CANNOT wait to see them!

Challenge Day 13: Goals

10.23.2010

I started a 101 in 1001 list on August 9. I think it pretty much sums up most of my goals. I think I'm doing pretty well, but there are several goals I haven't started yet. I've also had to put some on hold for now. I can't wait until  May 2013 to see how far I make it with my goals. Check out my list here. Keep checking back because I will have some updates for some of them in the near future! :)

In other non-challenge news- I know I haven't done any regular blog posts lately. I'm sorry! To be honest, we haven't been doing anything too exciting. Jesse still kiteboards whenever he has a free minute and I've been a little under the weather so I've been spending a lot of time resting and reading. We're both a bit homesick and really missing the U.S., our dogs, and our families. Unfortunately, we won't be heading home for a visit anytime soon but hopefully we will be going on a few trips in the next few months. We've eaten all the cheese we got on our last trip to South Africa so I'm sure we'll be happy to see a real grocery store. :)
I hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying a wonderful Fall weekend.

Challenge Day 12: What You Believe

10.22.2010

I believe:

  • In the power of prayer
  • I'm lucky to be married to my very best friend
  • That everything happens for a reason
  •  God gave His only Son to save me
  • That I have the best family in the world
  • Children are a blessing from above
  • Everything is what you make it
  • True friendships remain strong no matter the distance/time apart
  • Shopping is a perfectly acceptable hobby
  • There is no such thing as too many pairs of shoes or too many handbags
  • The United States is the best country in the world and we have the best military fighting to keep us free
  • Dogs really are man's best friend
  • There's no place like home <3

What do YOU believe?

Challenge Day 11: Favorite TV Shows

10.21.2010

Unfortunately I'm a season behind on most of my favorite shows but I'm looking forward to their DVD releases so I can catch up. :) Here are a few of my favorites:

all images via Amazon
As far as reality tv, I used to love the Hills, The Real Housewives of Orange County, and House Hunters on HGTV. Ahhh.... I can't wait to have American cable again!!!

Challenge Day 10: Something You're Afraid Of

10.20.2010

I'm still keeping up with the Blog Challenge at Katie's blog. I have missed two days but I'm going to try my hardest to keep up from now on. So, without further ado- my fears:

I am deathly afraid of spiders. I have been this way since I was little and I constantly have nightmares about spiders. I used to even be terrified of the tiny ones, but I've gotten better about that. It's mostly the big ones that completely creep me out! I seriously get chills just looking at pictures of spiders. Yuck!

I'm also completely claustrophobic. Small confined spaces freak me out! This was never an issue for me until I hit my mid-twenties. Unfortunately, it gets worse every year. Last year at Disney World I freaked out on a ride because we were enclosed in this little pod. I banged on the walls and yelled for the attendants to let me out. Of course, they couldn't and I survived. But it didn't help my little phobia AT ALL!

So now that I've shared my fears- tell me- what are YOU afraid of?

Challenge Day 9- Friends

10.19.2010

My oldest friend

Some of my besties at Halloween.

TT girls

my Busch Gardens partner in crime

My very first friend in Jacksonville! I had to use a picture from her Facebook because I haven't seen her in FIVE years! :( We're gonna change that soon, though. :)

This is just a sample of some of the amazing people in my life. We have some awesome neighbors and some wonderful family members that we also consider friends. Looking at these pictures makes me miss everyone so much! I'm definitely counting down until our next visit to the States.

Challenge Day 8: A Place You've Traveled

10.18.2010

I've traveled more in 2010 than I have in my entire life. That's what happens when you move halfway across the world. :) Unfortunately, I still haven't taken any dream vacations yet but I did visit Europe for the first time. On our way to Africa, we had a 24 hour layover in Brussels, Belgium. We weren't there long but we did take advantage of the little time we had.

Here a few pictures of the beautiful architecture:

The Grand Place

The Saint Michael and Saint Gudula Cathedral

It was built between 1226 and 1276 and it is absolutely breathtaking both inside and out.

There was a wedding going on while we were there, but the cathedral was still open to the public. The ceremony was in French so we couldn't understand much of what was going on but it was really neat to see.

During our short visit, we had some delicious food and yummy Belgian beer. My favorite thing of all was the way they served the coffee. Each person got their own little carafe. It was too cute- so I, of course, had to take a picture.

I'd have to say that my first visit to Europe was a success and I can't wait to go back!

Blogging Challenge Day 7- Favorite Movie

10.17.2010

Like the pictures, it's impossible for me to pick just one. I love all kinds of movies: chick flicks, comedies, action, even horror movies. But- my all time favorite movies are all chick flicks. Here they are in no particular order.

I love, love, love Sweet Home Alabama. Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Dempsey are adorable in this movie. It's definitely one of the ones that I can watch over and over.

Sweet Home Alabama
I also love How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I've seen it so many times that I can quote parts of it, yet it never gets old! I think Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have awesome chemistry together so they're perfect in this movie.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
And last, but certainly not least, I love My Best Friend's Wedding. I think I saw it for the first time when I was in high school and I've loved it ever since. The soundtrack is awesome, too. "The moment I wake up....Before I put on my makeup...." :)

My Best Friend's Wedding
Now that you know my favorites, I'd love to know yours. Leave a comment and tell me about your favorite movie.

Blogging Challenge Day 6- A Picture That Makes You Smile

10.16.2010

I couldn't narrow this down to one picture so here are a few:

This one is of my nieces at Christmas. Unfortunately, Hannah and Kylie aren't pictured. :( But I love this picture because last Christmas was the first time we've had the whole family together in a long while. The little cousins has a blast playing together. It was so much fun.

After Christmas, my Granny made her first trip to North Carolina to stay with us for three weeks. We went to Medieval Times and had a wonderful time. It was so awesome to have her visit. Now if I could only get her to come to Africa....

This one is my sweet hubby. He makes me laugh and smile all day long.

I love this one of Jessica and me on field day. We were laughing so so hard throughout the entire thing that we lost almost every race.

There are so many more pictures that make me smile but these are just a few! If you're interested in joining the blogging challenge, visit Katie's blog here.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

10.13.2010

I'm joining in with Jamie this week for What I'm Loving Wednesday.

I'm loving the Halloween costumes my Mom bought for Gracie. She can't decide if she wants to be herself:

Or if she wants to take a walk on the wild side:
I can't wait to see what Oscar is going to be.

I'm loving that today is a local holiday which means- no work!!! Woohoo. It's so nice to have a day off in the middle of the week.

I'm loving that this is the last week for one of my classes. All I have to do is finish my last assignment- a 15 page paper- and I'll be done! 3 pages down- 12 to go! :)

I'm loving that my dear friend Mandy found out she is having a.... GIRL!!! I know Jackson is going to be a great big brother. I can't wait to see all of the adorable little girl stuff they get for their little princess Ann Elise. Isn't this absolutely adorable?
I'm loving my sweet hubby for being there for me during an extremely stressful week. I've been sick and he's been great at taking care of me. Thanks babe!

I'm loving that my prayers this week have been answered. God is so good!

What are you loving this week?

Blogging Challenge Day 3- First Love

This one is easy for me. Jesse is, without a doubt, my first love. We met when I was 16 and we got married right before my 20th birthday. Crazy, isn' it? I know I would freak out if I knew a 19 year old that was getting married but the thing is- we knew it was right for us. Jesse was moving across the country on Marine Corps orders and I DID NOT want to live without him. It was during my sophomore year in college but I had no doubts that everything would work out. Luckily I was able to transfer to a university in North Carolina and I finished right on schedule.

Now- almost 13 years after our first date we are still going strong and love each other more than ever. We're really proud of how far we've made it, especially when we look back at where we started. God has been so good to us and blessed us in so many ways.

30 Day Blogging Challenge- Day 1 and Day 2

10.11.2010

I came across this 30 Day Blog Challenge on Katie's blog. We haven't had a whole lot going on here lately so I thought it would be fun to join in.

Day 1: Introduce, recent picture, 15 interesting facts

My name is Tami and I've been married to my wonderful husband Jesse for almost 9 years. He is in the Marine Corps and his career has provided us the opportunity to live in places we might have otherwise never visited. We are originally from Texas, but we have spent the last 8 years in beautiful coastal North Carolina. I went to college for teaching and I taught elementary school for 4 years. I love working in the education field and hope to return to some kind of education related job when we return to the States.  Earlier this year we moved halfway across the world to a little country in Africa. It's been quite an adventure and we are loving all the fun experiences we are having. We have two adorable, spoiled dogs- Oscar and Grace. Unfortunately, we weren't able to bring them with us so they are currently living with my parents. We miss them like crazy but know that they are being well loved (and maybe even spoiled).

1. I love coffee. I normally drink at least 2-3 cups a day. I especially love it with a big dollop of whip cream on top.

2. I'm new to blogging. I started my blog when we moved to Africa but now I'm hooked on blogging and reading other blogs. I hope I'll keep up with my blog for years to come.

3.I'm a huge procrastinator. I wait until the very last minue to do school work. I like to say that I work well under pressure.

4. I love to shop- for anything! I love buying clothes, stuff for the house, and even office supplies (that's the former teacher in me)

5. I have a huge soft spot for animals. I can't stand to see stray dogs running down the street and I will always try to stop and find out who they belong to.

6.I love to read. I will read just about anything though I'm not a sci-fi fan. I just finished the Sookie Stackhouse series and loved it.

7. My hubby and I were high school sweethearts. We've been together for almost 13 years.

8. I love to workout but I've fallen off the bandwagon lately.

9. I'm not a great cook. Every now and then I'll get the bug to improve my cooking skills but it usualy doesn't last. I can make some yummy appetizers, though.

10. I would do anything to go to Target right now. Shopping online is just NOT the same!

11. My dream job is to be a college professor. Too bad I'm burned out on school and I'll probably never go back for an Ed.D or Ph.D.

12. I rarely watch tv. We only get 4 channels here and they only show old shows so it's hard to stay interested. This may change when I have DVR again. :)

13. I think one of the most important jobs I will ever have is to be a mom. I hope I'll do a good job when the time comes. I do have a wonderful example to follow- love you Mom!

14.  I really, really miss the US right now. We've been here 6 months and the homesickness has definitely set in. I have no doubt that the US is the best country on Earth.

15. I'm a bargain shopper. I love getting a good deal and you will almost always find me in the clearance section of the store.

Day 2: The story behind your blog name
I chose our blog name because I wanted something that used our last name. I have to admit that it's not the most creative, but it's all I could think of at the time. I wish I would have read more blogs for ideas before I chose it, but I'm definitely not going to change it now. :)

Just Monkeying Around

10.07.2010

When I found out we were moving to Africa one of my first thoughts was of the amazing wildlife that can be found here. I pictured close-ups with giraffes, zebras, and lions. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to go on a safari yet and there are not many animals left in our country due to the recently ended civil war.

That being said, we have had a few animal encounters that I want to share.
A few weekends ago, we were lucky enough to meet Lulu. She's a 3 year old chimpanzee. Her owners own a hotel by the beach, and Lulu's home is part of their home.
It was my first time being this close to a chimp and I have to say it was pretty amazing. Her face, eyes, and hands were so human-like- it was a bit surreal.
She loved shaking our hands and didn't want to let go.

She was also being a bit precocious and kept trying to grab my camera when I tried to snap her picture. When she wasn't grabbing for the camera, she was hiding behind the bamboo.

Her owner told us that she loves hugs and kisses and she enjoys climbing. Her cage is a giant bamboo structure with a tunnel that connects the small room in the pictures to a giant room where she can climb and play all day.

I have to admit- I was a little bit nervous when she grabbed my hand, but Lulu was as sweet as can be. I can't wait to visit her again and maybe this time I'll be brave enough to give her a hug.

We also have an abundance of lizards here. We don't mind them because they eat all of the nasty mosquitos. Most of them are typical, plain-colored lizards that you would see anywhere. But a few days ago, we were lucky enough to spot this guy in our yard. Isn't he gorgeous?

Bugs are also plentiful here, despite the numerous lizards. I was terrified that there would be giant spiders here, but so far we have only had two big spiders in the house and they weren't as scary as I thought they'd be. (Although I will admit I stood on a kitchen chair while Jesse took care of them!) We've also seen some pretty cool looking bugs.

It may not be lions, and tigers, and bears, but I'm pretty excited about the creatures that we have seen. Of course, I'm still planning that safari I've been dreaming of. Hopefully then I'll have some really awesome pictures to share.
