A Birthday to Remember

12.06.2010

I think it's pretty safe to say that this was my first and will be my last birthday in Africa. Luckily, it turned out to be a great day.

We started the day at our favorite place: the beach.

We went to a new spot that we've never been too before. They had the most beautiful garden.

After some beach time, we decided to drive down to the river to look for hippos. We've looked for them before but never found any. We got lucky on Saturday, though.
Unfortunately my camera doesn't zoom in very far so this is the best shot I could get. We definitely didn't want to get too close- hippos are incredibly aggresive and dangerous. It was pretty amazing to see them playing around in the water. At one point they were opening their mouths and making this bellowing sound. I wish I could have gotten pictures of that. You wouldn't believe how big their teeth are!
After our visit with the hippos, we drove to the border of our neighboring country. We weren't planning on crossing, but just wanted to see what the sights along the way. ( Don't you just love the random cow?)

When we got back, we stopped at another beachfront hotel. Of course, we had to stop and say hello to Lulu. You may remember my post about her from a few months ago.
After visiting the sweet girl, we enjoyed the beautiful views and took a walk on the beach.

Jesse even stopped to write me a message in the sand. :)

Later in the evening we went to an Italian restaurant for some delicious pizza. I have to admit it wasn't Olive Garden (where I celebrated my last two birthdays) but it was pretty tasty!
Overall, I'd have to say that this is one birthday I will never forget.
